A radome structure of an antenna system is provided having a plurality of switchable antenna elements disposed around a perimeter of the radome structure that can simultaneously track multiple targets and be implemented in a variety of different applications. Each of the switchable antenna elements can be individually switched between different radiation patterns to support different applications. The antenna system may include an infrared (IR) sensor pedestal, an IR sensor disposed on the IR pedestal and a plurality of switchable radio frequency (RF) antenna elements disposed in a circumferential direction around the IR sensor pedestal. In an embodiment, each of the plurality of switchable RF antenna elements can be switched from a first radiation pattern to a second radiation pattern to change an array radiation pattern of the antenna.

Systems and techniques for radome-antenna configuration

A compact, wideband antenna system includes first and second monopole radiating elements positioned near an edge of a common ground plane. The first and second monopole radiating elements may be located on opposite sides of the ground plane. Additional monopole elements may also be provided. In some embodiments, the ground plane includes an opening in a central region thereof to accommodate an optical system. In some embodiments, an additional antenna (e.g., an array antenna) may be provided over the same ground plane in a region between the monopole elements.

Compact wideband radio frequency antenna systems and associated methods

A terrain aided navigation using multi-channel monopulse radar imaging to provide a navigation position update. The monopulse radar transmits a single RF pulse transmission or multiple quick RF pulse train bursts to generate a monopulse radar image that can be correlated with a digital terrain segment to provide navigation updates when requested. The radar has monopulse and off-axis capability that allows for selection of a terrain segment within the radar's search area that will provide a good terrain correlation. The radar measurements are made on a range/Doppler cell-by-cell basis that includes angle information. The cells in the range/Doppler map corresponding to the antenna main beam return are converted into a high resolution (x,y,z) image and correlated to the selected terrain segment in the data base reference frame to provide an updated navigation position estimate.

Terrain aided navigation using multi-channel monopulse radar imaging

The disclosed system and method for determining direction-of-arrival generally includes an antenna element and a processor. The antenna element may configured to generate a signal in response to an electromagnetic wave. The processor may be process the signal to determine the direction-of-arrival of the electromagnetic wave. Further, the direction-of-arrival may be determined based on an estimate of the direction-of-arrival of at least one of the electric field and the magnetic field of the electromagnetic wave.

Systems and methods for determining direction-of-arrival

An algorithmic technique which allows antenna arrays that are used for interferometric direction finding to have elements with arbitrary orientation. This technique allows the phase errors associated with non-identical element orientation to be estimated, without explicit knowledge of either the polarimetrics of the array elements or the polarimetrics of the source. It relies upon the fact that there exists a single number which describes the polarimetric interaction, and that this number can be estimated and then utilized to remove the phase component due to polarimetric interaction. This technique makes it feasible to incorporate direction finding arrays into articles that could benefit from such arrays, but because of size or shape constraints, were previously not able to do so.
