A battery cell according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a cell housing and a mounting member that is fixed to an outer surface of the cell housing. In one example, the mounting member is formed separate from the cell housing and attached to the outer surface of the cell housing. In another example, the mounting member is unitarily formed with the cell housing and protrudes from a planar surface of the cell housing.

A battery module includes a power assembly including a first battery cell and a second battery cell in a stacked orientation relative to each other, wherein the first battery cell comprises a first tab electrode extending therefrom, and wherein the second battery cell comprises a second tab electrode extending therefrom. The battery module also includes an interconnect assembly configured to facilitate electrically coupling the first tab electrode with the second tab electrode with the first and second battery cells in the stacked orientation. The interconnect assembly includes a coupling structure about which the first and second tab electrodes at least partially conform. In addition, the interconnect assembly includes a clamp disposed about the coupling structure and the first and second tab electrodes such that the first and second tab electrodes are secured in electrical communication.

System and method for clamping interconnection of battery cells

A battery cell assembly for use in a battery module including a battery cell that includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode and a rigid frame coupled to the battery cell. The rigid frame includes a first frame connector and a second frame connector. The frame is configured to facilitate electrical coupling of the positive electrode of the battery cell with the first frame connector, and to facilitate electrical coupling of the negative electrode of the battery cell with the second frame connector. The first and second frame connectors are configured to interface with frame connectors of other battery cell assemblies to facilitate physical and electrical connection of a plurality of battery cell assemblies disposed in a stacked orientation relative to each other.

A battery module according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a plurality of battery cells, a pair of sideplates, and a pair of endplates. The sideplates are disposed on opposite sides of the plurality of battery cells and the endplates are disposed at opposite ends of the battery module. The sideplates include a first mating portion and the endplates include a second mating portion that engages the first mating portion to provide an interference fit. The interference fit joins the sideplates and the endplates together and bands the plurality of cells together between the sideplates and the endplates.

Optimized module restraint system

A battery module is provided. The battery module includes a plurality of battery cell assemblies having a plurality of heat exchangers therein. The battery module includes a first rubber cooling manifold configured to route a fluid into the plurality of heat exchangers. The first rubber cooling manifold has a first tubular member, a first inlet port, a first plurality of outlet ports, and first and second end caps. The first end cap is coupled to a first end of the first tubular member. The second end cap is coupled to a second end of the first tubular member. The first inlet port is disposed on a top portion of the first tubular member for routing the fluid into the first tubular member. The first plurality of outlet ports is disposed collinearly and longitudinally along an outer surface of the first tubular member and spaced apart from one another. The first plurality of outlet ports extend outwardly from the outer surface of the first tubular member. The first plurality of outlet ports route the fluid from the first tubular member into the plurality of heat exchangers for cooling the plurality of battery cell assemblies.

A battery disconnect unit (BDU) is arranged to selectively enable current flow between a power source and a battery pack of a vehicle, and between the battery pack and the vehicle. The battery disconnect unit includes a housing having an exterior and an interior, a first exterior surface and a first interior surface, and an opening opposite the first interior surface. A plurality of BDU components are mounted within the interior of the housing. The BDU components are mounted at least one of on and adjacent to the first interior surface of the housing, and respective fasteners used to mount the BDU components to the first interior surface of the housing are not exposed on the first exterior surface of the housing. When the housing is mounted on a mounting surface associated with the battery pack, the opening is arranged adjacent to the mounting surface and the first interior surface is arranged opposite the mounting surface relative to the opening.

Inverted base battery disconnect unit

A battery disconnect unit for selectively coupling a battery pack to a load is provided. The unit includes a base portion that holds first and second contactors, a pre-charging relay, and a charging relay, thereon. The unit further includes a circuit board having first, second, third and fourth bus bars disposed thereon. The first and second bus bars are coupled to first and second terminals, respectively, of the first contactor. The first bus bar is further coupled to the battery pack, and the second bus bar is further coupled to the load. The third and fourth bus bars are coupled to third and fourth terminals, respectively, of the second contactor. The third bus bar is further coupled to the battery pack, and the fourth bus bar is further coupled to the load.

Battery disconnect unit and method of assembling the battery disconnect unit

A mounting system for a plurality of battery modules needed to form a battery pack includes a battery tray with a combination of fixed and detachable retainers that enable insertion/removal of individual battery modules from the battery pack, both during assembly of the battery pack and later in conjunction with service during its operation. The battery tray may be disposed on a base plate for added support, as well as integration of more than one battery tray and associated modules into a battery pack. A cover may be added to for additional support and protection of the battery modules. Where multiple battery trays are integrated on a base plate, the battery trays may be oriented on the base plate in different directions. The battery mounting system may be used in a motor vehicle or other applications that use a battery pack.
