Systems, methods, and computer-readable mediums for autofocusing cameras in a videophone are disclosed. A videophone system may include a camera having a lens, a lens actuator configured to move the lens, and an image sensor configured to capture images received through the lens. The videophone system may also include a distance sensor configured to determine an object of focus distance between the camera lens and the object of focus. The system includes memory for storing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the camera lens to automatically focus on the object of focus. The processor includes a lookup table configured to correlate an object of focus distance determined by the distance sensor with a digital number that can be converted by a digital to analog converter to a power value sufficient to power lens actuator to move the lens to a predetermined focus position. The lookup table is configured to correlate an object of focus distance returned by the distance sensor with a digital number representing a lens position, such that the object of focus falls within a depth of field about a focal plane corresponding to the lens position.

A video communication device may be configured to receive an incoming communication to at least two unique identifiers assigned by a video relay service provider. The video communication device can display a unique visual indicator pattern, which may be user-created and user-assigned to the one of the at least two unique identifiers dialed by a caller. The visual indicator pattern may be indicative of the existence an incoming call, the origin of the call, the destination device for the call, the destination ID for the call, or combinations thereof. The video communication device, when receiving an incoming call, may send a wireless notification signal to other communication devices, thereby notifying other devices that a video communication device is receiving an incoming call.

High-speed video interfaces, video endpoints, and related methods are disclosed. A high-speed video interface includes a system cable, a remote camera unit, and a main processing unit. The system cable includes one or more twisted pairs. A method includes capturing near-end video images including multi-channel, high-definition video data, serializing the video data, and transmitting the serialized video data to the main processing unit through a single one of the one or more twisted pairs of the system cable with the remote camera unit. The method also includes deserializing the serialized video data with the main processing unit. A video endpoint configured to enable an audibly impaired user to participate in video communication sessions for audibly impaired users includes the high-speed video interface.

Embodiments of the present invention include a camera having two modes: a visible light imaging mode (day-mode) and an IR imaging mode (night-mode). In the visible light imaging mode, an IR filter is in line with the lens assembly. In the IR imaging mode, the IR filter is mechanically removed, and IR light is allowed to pass to the sensor. In one embodiment, in the IR imaging mode, IR lighting is provided by an IR LEDs on the camera to illuminate the scene. In one embodiment, the various components are chosen, balanced and optimized so that images captured using visible light and images captured using non-visible light are both in focus. In one embodiment, an algorithm determines when there sufficient visible light is present and when it is not, and thus determines when to switch the camera from one mode to another.

A control circuit is configured to detect an event, and cause a transceiver to send a communication indicating a visual indicator pattern corresponding to the event to the spatial visual indicator. A method of indicating an occurrence of an event comprises receiving a communication indicating one of a plurality of visual indicator patterns that is associated with a detected event. Medical needle shield apparatus for covering a needle after use. In embodiments of this invention a shield with two or more segments hingedly connected to each other is movable from a retracted position where the needle is exposed, to an extended position where the shield extends beyond the end of the needle. The needle is affixed in a hub of a medical needle device, and the shield is articulated to the hub. At least one of the two or more segments has an open orifice through which the needle passes to form an axis of intersection about the needle. The shield includes a channel for covering the needle when the shield is linearly extended. One or more locks associated with one or more of the segments secures one or more of the segments relative to the shield in the extended position. A latch is also disposed on the distal segment for securing the distal segment relative to the shield when in the extended position. The number of hingedly connected segments depends upon the needle length and device length required to extend the shield beyond the distal end of the needle.

The medical needle shield apparatus is for use with a needle having proximal and distal ends, wherein the shield is slidably movable along the needle from a proximal position where the distal end of the needle is exposed, to a distal position where the shield covers the distal end of the needle. The shield comprises one or more clips having two or more apertures through which the needle passes, wherein the apertures have surfaces. A clip positioning member, in communication with at least one of the clips, positions the aperture surfaces of at least one of the clips when a portion of the clip positioning member in contact with the needle is advanced past the distal end of the needle such that at least a portion of the aperture surfaces of the two or more apertures binds to the needle with opposing binding forces so as to secure the shield to the needle.
