A roaming condition is detected on a wireless device, in which the wireless device is operational in a region where the wireless device is not permitted in have wireless services other than a designated minimal set of services. A service request message is generated on the wireless device. The service request can be structured for handing by a home region service provider that can initiate one or more wireless services for the computing device using a local service provider for the region. The service request message can be transmitted from the computing device using the designated minimal set of services.

A method and corresponding apparatus and system of controlling access to communication services by a roaming wireless device are described. The method includes receiving a request for roaming wireless device service information related to a roaming user and determining which services the user has access to for the requesting system, if the user is determined to have access to the requesting system. The method also includes transmitting user service information concerning the services to which the user has access. The apparatus includes a memory, a communication system, and a processor. The memory stores: (1) user information including a class of service (COS) identifier and (2) COS restriction information. The processing system, coupled with the communication system and the memory, generates a reply message based on comparing information in a service request message received by the communication system with the stored information in the memory.

Controlling access to communication services

System and method for traffic surge control. A control message may be received for registering or managing a device in a network. A measure of a number of current control messages already being processed in the network may be retrieved. A condition may be retrieved, from among a plurality of conditions, that corresponds to the retrieved measure of current control messages, each condition defining different rules for discarding a control message of the same type and corresponding to one of a plurality of measures of current control messages. Based on whether or not the retrieved condition is met, the control message may be processed to register or manage the device or discarded.

System and method for traffic surge control

Example embodiments disclosed herein relate to implementing circuit-switched call delivery. A mobile terminating call for user equipment (UE) is received. A first mobile switching center is determined to perform a first call termination attempt for the mobile terminating call by sending a provide roaming number (PRN) request with a pre-paging supported parameter to the first MSC. The first call termination attempt can include instructing the UE to return to a CS network domain to receive the call. A message indicating that the UE is not connected to the first MSC is received. It is determined whether the UE is in a registration process within a duration of time. If the registration succeeds, a second call termination attempt for the mobile terminating call is made via the second MSC.

There is provided a method, in a communications network, of obtaining a set of subscriber information for a subscriber. The method comprises receiving a request to obtain a set of subscriber information for a subscriber, obtaining a generic set of subscriber information, and deriving, from the generic set of subscriber information, a set of subscriber information for the subscriber.

According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method of authorizing a communication device to connect to a network. The method comprises receiving, at a processor, a communication device identifier and a subscriber identifier, determining, by the processor, whether the received communication device identifier is associated with the received subscriber identifier in a data store. Where it is determined that the received identifiers are not so associated the method further comprise requesting, by the processor, a security token associated with the communication device, receiving, at the processor, a security token, determining, by the processor, whether the received security token matches a stored security token associated with the received communication device identifier in the data store, and where it is so determined, authorizing the communication device to connect to the network.

Network access control

Techniques for storing data used in making announcements in telephone communications are disclosed. In an embodiment, an announcement depends on classes of services associated with telephone subscribers. The classes of services represent call types or call features such as call-forwarding unconditional, call-forwarding busy, call-forwarding no answer, etc. A first database associates subscribed phone numbers with a class of service. A second database defines the class of services such as the call types, the telephone digit pattern in the subscribed telephone numbers, the condition for an announcement, etc. A third database defines a default class of service for use in case a phone number is not associated with a class of service in the first database.

Systems, methods, and devices for a database are provided. One database embodiment includes a set of executable instructions operable on the database. One or more database partitions are provided, each having a defined key range. The set of executable instructions is operable to reverse octets in variable length keys. A last digit in an odd-length key value, plus a pad, is placed in a dedicated octet to partition the variable length keys in the one or more database partitions.

A method for authenticating a mobile communication device (MCD) to a wireless network. The method includes transmitting from the wireless network to the MCD a first value. The method further includes receiving from the MCD at the wireless network a second value, the second value representing a function of the first value, a shared data value that is stored in both the MCD and the wireless network, and at least one metric pertaining to an application program stored in the MCD.
