A host automated meter reading (AMR) device may communicate with one or more client AMR devices in proximity to the host meter. The host and client AMR devices operate as master and slave devices, respectively, in a host-client AMR device system. The host AMR device may transmit command and control functions to the client AMR devices, and may receive AMR device information from each client AMR device. The host AMR device may also transmit AMR device information from both itself and the client AMR devices over a communications network to a utility. Furthermore, the host AMR device may receive command and control functions from the utility via the same communications network, and may relay those functions to the AMR devices associated with that particular host AMR device.

Host-client utility meter systems and methods for communicating with the same

A method and system for monitoring utility meter status, and transmitting a status message via an output device connected to a universal communications interface in the event that the utility meter status meets a predetermined condition. Typically, the predetermined condition is a power loss, signified by a drop in voltage or current. The system is connected to a utility meter, such as an electric meter. The voltage level of the electric meter is monitored through a voltage input interface. An analog-to-digital converter transforms the voltage waveform into a series of digital is data packets, which are then transmitted to a microprocessor. The microprocessor monitors the digital signal for a power loss indication, or other predetermined condition. Once a predetermined condition is met, the microprocessor transmits a status message across a universal serial bus to a universal communications interface. The universal communications interface is connected to at least one slot, which contains at least one output device. The universal communications interface is further able to determine the proper signal format employed by the output device for information transmission. Upon receipt of the status message, the universal communications interface converts the status message to the signal format employed by the output device, and passes the converted status message to the output device via the slot. The output device may then transmit the status message to a remote receiver in order to quickly and accurately update distant locations regarding the utility meter.

Method and system for monitoring and transmitting utility status via universal communications interface

A method and system for monitoring utility meter status, and transmitting a status message via an output device connected to a universal communications interface in the event that the utility meter status meets a predetermined condition. There is provided a device, system, and method for reporting a change in the power status of power supplied through an electric outlet. A power outage notification device detects the change in the power status of the power, such as a power outage or a power restoration, supplied through the electric outlet, places a call to an integrated voice response system (IVR) using a telecommunications network, and transmits power status notification information to the IVR. The power status notification device contains software or computer executable instructions to accomplish the reporting. The power status notification device is programmable and reprogrammable. The device requires no battery and programmed parameters may be used to determine how power in the device is maintained.

Electric outlet based power status notification device, system, and method

A sensor system for monitoring for the presence of contamination with one or more contaminating biological, chemical and/or radioactive agents on a terrain surface, and creating a contamination map thereof. The sensor system includes a plurality of sensor pods, a ground station, an airborne dispensing portion, and an airborne monitoring portion. The sensor pods include a pod housing, a descent slowing airfoil, a detector unit for detection of the contaminating agent and outputting contaminating agent data, a processor for processing the contaminating agent data, a GPS unit for determining the position of the sensor, and a transmitter for transmitting contamination agent data and position data to the airborne monitoring portion. The airborne monitoring portion receives the transmitted data from the sensor pods, and relays the data to the ground station, where the contamination map is made available.

Geopositionable expendable sensors and the use therefor for monitoring surface conditions

An embodiment of a electric power outage notification device is disclosed that combines several components including voltage transformation, a comparator circuit, a microprocessor and a data/fax modem chip. The invention further incorporates support components that aid in its overall functionality including a read-only memory, random access memory and a real-time clock. The unit is fully programmable using these components and can be programmed by software means to send an outage report to a selected remote computer modem, facsimile machine or alphanumeric pager. This outage report is sent to a programmed phone number after a power outage of a predetermined duration of time. The unit also reverses its role by providing notification of restored power.

Outage notification device

A video system, comprising a pair of digital video cameras and a data prosing system, which is used to determine the location of a golf ball during flight and the location of the golf ball when its flight is completed. The video cameras are fixedly mounted on a golf cart and boresighted to insure that the field of view for one camera overlaps the field of view for the other camera allowing the golf ball to be tracked after the golf ball is struck by the golfer. Each of the video cameras has an image array comprising a plurality of image sensing elements. As the golf ball travels along its flight path a light image of the golf ball is detected by at least one of the image sensing elements of the image array for each camera during a scan of the camera's image array. Each camera generates a data bit stream indicating the location of the image sensing elements on the image array which sense the golf ball's light image for each scan of the image array. The data bit streams are supplied to the data processing system which then calculates the departure vector, a trajectory path and a circular impact probability (CIP) location for the golf ball when the golf ball lands on the golf course. A monitor provides the golfer with video data indicating the golf ball's circular impact probability location.
