Compositions and methods for producing smoke suppressants are disclosed. The smoke suppressant molecularly encapsulates a naturally-occurring inorganic substrate, such as expanded volcanic ash. These intercalated smoke suppressant compositions have particular utility for smoke suppression in polyvinyl chloride (PVC), both flexible and rigid compounds as well as other polymeric resins and materials.

Smoke suppressant compositions

The present invention relates to the extrusion of a composition comprising tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, 10-60 wt % inorganic particulate filler, and hydrocarbon polymer for dispersing the filler in the copolymer, preferably 0.1 to 5 wt % hydrocarbon polymer, at low temperatures, e.g. up to 650&#xb0; F. (343&#xb0; C.).

Filled perfluoropolymer composition comprising a low melting fluoropolymer additive

The present invention relates to jacketed cable especially useful for plenum enclosures of buildings, the jacket of the cable comprising perfluoropolymer, such as tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer, and inorganic char-forming agent, and preferably an additional ingredient, hydrocarbon polymer, the cable passing the NFPA-255 burn test.

A non-dripping, flame retardant, fluoropolymeric composition comprising: (a) a fluoropolymeric base polymer; (b) at least one char forming agent; and (c) a compatibilizer agent. The fluoropolymeric base polymer is preferably selected from the group consisting of PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride), ECTFE, poly-ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene, and ETFE poly-ethylene tetrafluoroethylene. Such compositions are especially useful for appliance wire, aerospace/military wire, cable raceways, blown fiber tubes, fire alarm cables, circuit integrity cables, fiber optic distribution cables & breakout components, heat tracing cable jacket, stage lighting cable, industrial cable, shipboard cable (military & passenger), shielded cable jackets.

Zero halogen polyolefin compositions exhibit low smoke emission, low corrosivity, low toxicity, and low heat release properties, as well as flame resistance and char formation, while simultaneously maintaining favorable electrical insulation properties. A non-dripping, flame retardant, fluoropolymeric insulative composition comprises: (a) a fluoropolymeric base polymer; and (b) a nanoclay additive. The preferred nanoclay additive is selected from the group consisting of synthetic silicate montmorillonites, natural layered silicate montmorillonites and a layered alumna-silicate. Such compositions are especially useful for coating wires and conductors employed in high-speed speed telecommunication data transmission cables. A method for preparing an exfoliated thermoplastic elastomer blend of a fluoropolymer and a nanocomposite comprising dynamically mixing said fluoropolymer and said nanocomposite in a ratio of from about 99:1 to about 50:50 parts by weight, respectively.

Non-dripping, flame retardant, fluoroelastomer insulative compositions for telecommunication cables

Polyamide coating compositions that demonstrate strength and toughness, flame and corrosion resistance and resistance to hydrolysis and thermal degradation at coating thicknesses of less than or equal to 0.25 mm or 0.15 mm are provided. Such coating compositions are extremely useful for coating wires or cables that are housed in automotive electrical harnesses.
