A printing method comprising a printhead and rollers for printing. A page of a print job is printed which causes depressions in the non-printed side of the print medium. The print medium is heated to reduce the depressions before printing the non-printed side.

Printing method for reducing printer artifacts

A system for affixing a printed image onto a book cover, comprising a sleeve having a front surface, a back surface and four edges. The sleeve includes a front layer having a transparent window region surrounded by an opaque mask region and a back layer joined to the front layer along at least two of the edges, wherein the back layer is not joined to the front layer along at least one of the edges thereby providing at least one open edge adapted to receive the printed image. Adhesive strips having peelable coverings are affixed onto the back surface of the sleeve along at least two of the edges. The opaque mask region is adapted to cover the edges of the printed image, and the adhesive strips are adapted to affix the sleeve onto the book cover.

A printing system comprising two thermal printheads and an apparatus for smoothing a side of thermal media which may be compromised by an aggressive drive roller design. The smoothing apparatus in one embodiment is a heater which optionally comprises a heated roller for contacting and smoothing the receiver media.

Printing system for reducing printer artifacts

A method for the preparation of a lithographic printing plate comprises forming an oleophilic image on the surface of a hydrophilic support by depositing, preferably by ink-jetting, the desired image on the surface using an aqueous emulsion of an organic film-forming polymer which has been prepared by emulsion polymerization, whereby the polymer adheres to the surface of the printing plate forming an oleophilic film. The polymer preferably has functional groups such as sulphonate that bind the polymer to the hydrophilic surface. Preferably the polymer has a glass transition temperature of not greater than about 105&deg; C. and where the glass transition temperature is above 50&deg; C. the polymer, after deposition on the plate, is preferably subjected to a heat treatment to assist in film formation.

Lithographic printing plates and method for their preparation

A method and an apparatus for protecting and improving the grip of hands are disclosed. According to the invention, an abrasion-resistant material having an adhesive on one side is affixed to a hand of a user, such that the palm of the hand is protected. Tabs may be provided for protecting the sides of the hand and the thumb, and for securing the device to the hand. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the device is asymmetrical, and is supplied in left and right hand versions. The device may be constructed from cloth having an adhesive backing. The present invention protects the hands from abrasion, while promoting grip and avoiding overheating and bunching. In addition, the device of the present invention is inexpensive, and therefore a device in accordance with the invention may be discarded after use.

A lithographic imaging member, such as a printing plate, has a support having thereon an ink-accepting melanophilic layer and an ink-rejecting siloxane surface melanophobic layer. Within the printing plate is a photothermal conversion material capable of converting irradiation, such as IR radiation, to heat in exposed regions. Also within one of the layers is a compound that upon imaging releases a moiety that facilitates degradation of the surface melanophobic layer. The released moiety can be fluoride ion or a fluoride ion-containing compound. In some imaging members, a barrier layer may be interposed between the two other layers. Such imaging members can be digitally imaged and used for printing without post-imaging processing.

Direct write waterless imaging member with improved ablation properties

A thermally imagable element suitable for use as a lithographic printing plate is disclosed. Imagable element contains an ink repellent, thermally sensitive surface layer on a substrate. The surface layer contains an ink repellent, thermally sensitive co-polymer which is both thermally sensitive and has the physical properties needed for handling and printing. The thermally sensitive co-polymer contains two types of segments: (a) soft silicone segments, which repel ink, and (b) hard segments, which provide physical integrity and impart thermal sensitivity to the co-polymer. The element can be imaged by imagewise expose either by infrared radiation or by heat. The process requires no wet development step and no wiping. Thermally labile crosslinked polymers are also disclosed.

Processless planographic printing plate

A lithographic imaging member has a support having thereon a melanophobic silicone copolymer layer and a contiguous surface melanophilic layer composed of an inorganic or organic polymeric matrix. Either or both layers includes a photothermal conversion material capable of converting irradiation, such as IR radiation, to heat in exposed regions. The imaging member can include in one or more layers a material capable of promoting adhesion across the interface of the contiguous layers. This imaging member can be digitally imaged, for example using a laser, and used for printing without wet processing.
