A MEMS auto focus miniature camera module includes an image sensor and an optical train including at least one movable lens and one or more fixed lenses or fixed lens groups on either side of the movable lens. The movable lens provides an auto focus feature of the camera module. A MEMS actuator translates the movable lens through an auto focus range to adjust focus.

A miniature MEMS autofocus camera module includes a MEMS actuated movable lens group and at least one fixed lens group defining an optical axis within a camera module housing. Objects disposed an arbitrary distance from the camera module are automatically focused at a determined zoom to an image sensor. MEMS actuation of the movable lens group is performed to accomplish autofocus functionality.

A beam alignment chamber extending in a length direction comprising a base having a front edge, and two side edges, first and second opposed side walls connected to the base, and extending along the length of the base, a front wall located at the front edge of the base having an output opening. The beam alignment chamber further comprises a plurality of arrays of light sources disposed to direct light beams through the first or second side walls, and a plurality of reflectors mounted on the base, each having independent yaw and pitch adjustments, each reflector being paired with a corresponding array of light sources, the base-mounted reflectors being disposed to direct the light beams along the length of the beam alignment chamber through the output opening forming an aligned two-dimensional array of parallel light beams.

A method of forming an electronic device on a metal substrate deposits a first seed layer of a first metal on at least one master surface with a roughness less than 400 nm. A supporting metal layer is bonded to the first seed layer to form the metal substrate. The metal substrate is removed from the master surface, and at least one electronic device is formed on the seed layer of the metal substrate.

A beam alignment chamber comprising: a base, first and second side walls connected to the base, and a front wall located at the front edge of the base having an output opening. The beam alignment chamber further including a plurality of light sources disposed to direct light beams through the first or second side walls, a plurality of reflectors mounted on the base, each having independent yaw and pitch adjustments, each being disposed to direct the light beams from a corresponding light sources along the length of the beam alignment chamber through the output opening forming an aligned array of parallel light beams, and one or more optical elements positioned in the optical path of the aligned array of light beams disposed to correct the beam divergence with respect to at least one axis.

A beam alignment system for generating an aligned two-dimensional array of parallel light beams, comprising a beam alignment chamber including a base extending in a length direction and a plurality of reflectors mounted on the base, each having independent yaw and pitch adjustments. The beam alignment system further includes a plurality of arrays of light sources, each generating an array of light beams and being paired with a corresponding reflector, the reflectors being disposed to direct the light beams along the length of the beam alignment chamber forming an aligned two-dimensional array of parallel light beams.

A cover and method of protecting and testing an image sensor. The cover is designed to be mounted on a supporting substrate in which the sensor is mounted. The substrate has a generally planer surface with the image sensor being mounted below the generally planer surface. Cover includes a body portion which extends over the image sensor and has means for removably mounting and demounting the cover from the substrate. The cover further includes a window area such that use and/or test of said sensor may occur through said window when the cover is mounted to said substrate.

A print guide mechanism having parallel first and second guide rods, and a carriage assembly designed to move along the guide rods. The carriage assembly in a preferred embodiment comprises a frame and at least one pair of associated roller bearing assemblies being secured to the frame and being arranged so as to engage the first guide support rod for providing linear movement of the carriage assembly along the first guide rod, at least one upper roller bearing assembly mounted to the frame for engagement with the second guide rod, and a first mounting assembly having at least one lower roller bearing assembly. The at least one upper and lower roller bearing assemblies are arranged so as to engage the second guide rod between. The first mounting assembly is pivotally mounted to the frame so as to compensate for parallel misalignment between the guide rods and is biased for applying a loading force so that positive engagement is provided between the guide rods and the roller bearing assemblies. In the preferred embodiment at least one of the roller bearing assemblies having an outer engaging surface made of a material having a modulus of elasticity less than the modulus of the guide rod which it engages.
