A method of monitoring main contact conditions of main contacts in an automatic transfer switch is provided. The automatic transfer switch is coupled to a plurality of electrical power sources and an electrical load. The method includes: measuring, by sensors, temperatures of a plurality of main contacts coupled to the plurality of power sources; determining if the measured temperatures indicate a temperature rise at one or more main contacts of the plurality of main contacts; in response to determining that the measured temperatures indicate a temperature rise at the one or more main contacts, comparing a current value of the temperature rise with stored temperature rise values that represent main contact damages; and determining an amount of main contact damage at the one or more main contacts based on the comparison.

A method of monitoring joint and contact conditions in an automatic transfer switch includes: collecting electrical signals at a plurality of measurement locations associated with a plurality of power sources and a load over a predetermined period, the electrical signals including voltages and load current; obtaining deltas between source voltages and corresponding load voltage measured at the measurement locations over the predetermined period; comparing the deltas with thresholds obtained during healthy condition; determining that the deltas fall outside of the thresholds; and in response to determining that the deltas fall outside of the threshold, transmitting an alert to a user, the alert indicating a detection of one or more failure modes at the measurement locations.

Method of monitoring joint and contact conditions in an electrical network

A method or device is provided for connecting a centrifugal blower to a process requiring the flow of forced air such that the flow of air may be reversed. The method is applied to a process that benefits from the switching of the direction of air flow to either positive pressure or suction. The method was developed primarily use in the forced aeration composting process but may have other applications. The invention consists of a damper with a plurality of vanes rotating on parallel shafts, which is closely coupled to both the inlet and outlet of a centrifugal blower. When set to provide positive pressure, the vanes direct outside air to the blower intake and direct the blower discharge to the process requiring aeration. When set to provide suction, the vanes direct air from the process to the blower intake and direct the blower discharge to a port that may be connected to an air pollution control device. The shafts are connected by co-planar crank arms and linkages, such that the damper setting may be switched by a single actuator, thereby simplifying the automation of the reversal of air flow.
