An engine diagnostic system includes a control system having a controller operatively connected to an engine. A monitoring system has a sensor operatively connected to the engine. A diagnostic system is operatively connected to the engine. The diagnostic system is configured to implement a sensor diagnostic procedure that includes a sensor health test. The sensor health test includes comparing a measured value of a sensor to an expected value and determining the health of the sensor based on the difference between the measured value and the expected value. The sensor diagnostic procedure can also include telematics data analysis.

Sensor diagnostic procedure

A turbocharged device including a turbocharger, a first sensor in operable communication with the turbocharger and configured to output a first signal representative of a first attribute of the turbocharger, and a controller in operable communication with the first sensor. Where the controller is configured to calculate a first preliminary surge score based at least in part on the first signal, and calculate a first weighted surge score based at least in part on the first preliminary surge score and a first weighting factor configured to express the relative significance of the first preliminary surge score.

Surge wear predictor for a turbocharger

A turbocharged device subject to a surge event during operation, the turbocharged device including a turbocharger having a controller and a bearing assembly, a first sensor configured to detect the oil pressure provided to the bearing assembly, a second sensor in operable communication with the turbocharger, where the controller is configured to determine the magnitude of the surge event based at least in part on a signal provided by the second sensor in response to the surge event, and where the controller is configured to determine the wear inflicted on the turbocharger during the surge event based at least in part on the magnitude of the surge event and a signal provided by the first sensor in response to the surge event.

Systems and methods are provided for a diagnostic system for a machine with a combustion engine and a variable geometry turbocharger that includes a vane position sensor. The diagnostic system includes a controller configured to calculate a learned span value of the turbocharger based on the output of the vane position sensor during a diagnostic procedure and a reference vane position sensor value. A plurality of learned span values are calculated each during a different one of a plurality of diagnostic procedures performed over a period of time and a first regression analysis to predict an expected learned span value at a defined future time using the calculated learned span value and the plurality of stored learned span values. An alert message is generated when the expected learned span value is indicative of a potential future fault of the turbocharger.

Variable geometry turbocharger prognostics

A service diagnostic trouble code sequencer and method is disclosed that includes receiving multiple diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), determining which DTCs to diagnose first, and recommending which DTC(s) to diagnose first. The sequencer can recommend a category of DTCs to diagnose first, where the category of DTCs includes one or more DTCs. The sequencer can prioritize the DTCs in the category of DTCs. The sequencer can separate the DTCs into multiple categories of DTCs, and prioritize the multiple categories of DTCs. The sequencer can prioritize the DTCs in an ordered category of the multiple categories of DTCs. The sequencer can receive the plurality of DTCs locally or remotely over a network. The sequencer can output the one or more DTCs to diagnose first locally or remotely over a network. The sequencer can be resident on the machine generating the DTCs.
