A heat exchanger tube includes a central tube portion having a C-shape cross-section. A pair of tube ends includes the C-shape cross-section or a different cross-section. A heat exchanger tube assembly and a method for manufacturing a C-shape heat exchanger tube are also described.

A thermostatic mixing valve is used in a tempered water blending system. A cold water bypass line in the system acts under the control of a modulating valve and electronic controller to divert cold water back to a temperature sensing element in the mixing valve. By flooding the temperature sensing element, the mixing valve detects a false temperature and adjusts its flow rate of hot and cold water accordingly. The electronic controller acts in reverse of normal fashion, providing negative feedback to the sensing element of the mixing valve.

Electromechanical temperature regulation system for providing tempered mix water

A water heater is shown having a closed metal tank with an upwardly mounted combustion chamber and burner/blower assembly. Curved fire tubes convey the products of combustion from the chamber to an exterior mounted flue assembly. The closed tank is enclosed by a rotomolded jacket. A support stand with vertically arranged support legs supports the tank in a normally vertical position but also allows the tank to be pivoted to a horizontal position on the support stand for maintenance or repair operations.

Condensing gas fired water heater

A high efficiency heat exchanger is shown which can be incorporated into a finned tube water heater. The heat exchanger has a pair of flow manifolds each having a water inlet and a water outlet and a series of connecting openings. Circular flow tubes have connecting ends which fit within the connecting openings of the manifold so that the tubes are arranged in a stacked fashion to form a tube bundle. When incorporated into a water heater, a burner communicates with the interior space within the stacked tube bundle for producing products of combustion for heating water flowing in the flow tubes. The flow tubes have external fins which are crushed to form upper and lower flat stacking surfaces for stacking the tubes to form the tube bundle. The fins are also crushed to form angled baffled surfaces about a external periphery of the tubes. The baffle surfaces serve to retain heat from the products of combustion of the burner which are released into the interior space within the stacked tube bundle. A method of corrosion protecting the heat exchanger is also shown.

Finned tube heat exchanger and method

A finned tube water heater has a pair of flow manifolds each having a water inlet and a water outlet and a series of connected openings. Circular flow tubes have connecting ends which fit within the connecting openings of the manifold so that the tubes are arranged in a stacked fashion to form a tube bundle. A burner communicates with the interior space within the stacked tube bundle for producing products of combustion for heating water flowing in the flow tubes. The flow tubes have external fins which are crushed to form upper and lower flat stacking surfaces for stacking the tubes to form the tube bundle. The fins are also crushed to form angled baffled surfaces about a external periphery of the tubes. The baffle surfaces serve to retain heat from the products of combustion of the burner which are released into the interior space within the stacked tube bundle.

Finned tube water heater

A water heater apparatus is shown which includes a water heating tank having generally cylindrical sidewalls with upper and lower ends, each of which is closed by a transverse wall section to define a closed tank interior. The tank also has a water inlet and a water outlet. A plurality of vertically arranged fire tubes are connected between the upper and lower transverse wall sections, each fire tube having an open interior for conducting products of combustion. A combustion chamber is mounted on the upper end of the water heating tank for providing products of combustion to the open interiors of the fire tubes. A flue collector chamber is located at the bottom end of the tank for collecting and exhausting the products of combustion from the vertically arranged fire tubes. An induction blower draws the products of combustion downwardly from the combustion chamber, through the fire tubes and out the flue collector chamber for exhaustion from the apparatus. A specially designed burner operates at lower pressure conditions and provides a low capacity airflow to the unit when the main induction blower is off to create a static condition and prevent condensation within the internal components of the apparatus.

Vertical tube water heater apparatus

A water heater apparatus is shown which includes a water heating tank having generally cylindrical sidewalls with upper and lower ends, each of which is closed by a transverse wall section to define a closed tank interior. The tank also has a water inlet and a water outlet. A plurality of vertically arranged fire tubes are connected between the upper and lower transverse wall sections, each fire tube having an open interior for conducting products of combustion. A combustion chamber is mounted on the upper end of the water heating tank for providing products of combustion to the open interiors of the fire tubes. A flue collector is located at the bottom end of the tank for collecting and exhausting the products of combustion from the vertically arranged fire tubes. An induction blower draws the products of combustion downwardly from the combustion chamber, through the fire tubes and out the flue collector for exhaustion from the apparatus. A specially designed burner operates at lower pressure conditions and provides a low capacity airflow to the unit when the main induction blower is off to create a static condition and prevent condensation within the internal components of the apparatus.

High efficiency vertical tube water heater apparatus

The invention relates to a water heating apparatus which uses a submergible, pressurized combustion chamber having multiple external heating surfaces, a forced draft burner and a flue collector that collects and passively recirculates a portion of the flue gases back into the burner air intake region. An improved burner array more completely mixes the combustible gases in the combustion region and operates over a wide range of input demands.

The invention relates to a water heating apparatus and method to passively recirculate flue gas in order to reduce NO.sub.x emissions formed during combustion. The apparatus uses a high efficiency burner, a submergible, pressurized, combustion chamber having multiple external heating surfaces, and a flue collector that collects and passively recirculates a portion of the flue gases back into the burner air intake while exhausting the rest. The multiple external heating surfaces are installed within a closed tank and are submerged in water under pressure during use.

Water heating apparatus with passive flue gas recirculation

A combustion system is shown having a combustion chamber into which fuel is introduced and ignited in the presence of air to create products of combustion which are routed through an exhaust vent. A forced draft burner intakes air and fuel and ignites these components to supply heat to the combustion chamber. A valve is provided within the exhaust vent for varying the degree of restriction within the exhaust vent. A modulation drive motor is connected to the variable restriction in the exhaust vent and to the air and fuel supply sources for increasing the exhaust vent back pressure as the ratio of air and fuel being supplied to the combustion chamber are decreased.
