The display space of a multiple door display merchandiser is illuminated by one or more vertically extending lamps () disposed intermediate the vertical sides of an access opening to the display space. A multiple door assembly () covers the access opening. To enhance the illumination of the display space, a pair of vertically extending side reflectors () are provided, one extending along one side of the access opening and the other extending along the other side of the access opening. An additional reflector may be mounted to an interior facing surface of the door along an upper front region of the door and/or a lower front region.

A heat exchanger includes an inlet header, an outlet header and a plurality of flat, multi-channel heat exchange tubes extending therebetween. A longitudinally extending member divides the interior of the header into a first chamber on one side thereof for receiving a fluid and a second chamber on the other side thereof. A plurality of multi-channel heat exchange tubes extend between the headers with the respective inlet end of each heat exchange tube passing into the second chamber of the inlet header. Fluid passes through a series of longitudinally spaced openings in the longitudinally extending member for distribution to the inlets to the channels of the multi-channel heat exchange tubes. The fluid may undergo expansion as it passes through the openings.

A screw compressor is provided with a discharge chamber that receives alternating flows of compressed fluid from two compression chambers located on opposed sides of the screw compressor. The discharge chamber is provided with a central baffle plate separating the two flows. The baffle plate changes the fluid frequency of the system, and ensures that the fluid system will not operate at a frequency that approaches the natural frequency of the overall compressor, thus reducing undesirable vibrations. The baffle plate also reduces the magnitude of the fluctuations and the resultant noise.

A screw compressor includes a housing and a screw rotor disposed in the housing and rotatable relative to the housing for compressing a refrigerant, the housing and the screw rotor having a rest condition, and an operating condition wherein at least one of the housing and the rotor deflect from the rest condition, and structure for at least one of reducing deflection from the rest condition and evenly distributing deflection from the rest condition when the rotor is in the operating condition, whereby clearance between the housing and the rotor is optimized in the operating condition.

An absorptive and reactive muffler includes an annular flow path for the gas with the center of the annulus having a plurality of resonators which are in open communication with the downstream end of the annular flow path and make up the reactive portion of the muffler. The entire discharge flow in a high side, vertical, hermetic rotary compressor is directed into the oil sump which generates foam for sound attenuation and heats the oil to reduce its viscosity and to drive off refrigerant dissolved in the oil.

The gas flow direction and the noise generation direction are in opposite directions in the suction muffler. The flow path in the muffler has a number of changes in direction and the flow path cross section decreases at each change of direction in the direction of flow.

A screw compressor includes at least two components defining at least two operating zones of different pressure and having surfaces defining a flow point between the at least two zones, and a surface treatment positioned on the surfaces so as to reduce clearance between the surfaces, and thereby reduce leakage through the flow point.

A mount both supports a compressor, and provides fluid communication, between the compressor and a heat exchanger. A first axis is defined extending through the compressor center of mass. A second axis is defined extending parallel to the first axis and positioned a distance from the first axis. A manifold is provided by the mount, and has an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is positioned along the first axis and connected to the heat exchanger and the outlet is positioned along the second axis and connected to the compressor.

A plug or plenum fan is located near two walls of the plenum such that they tend to act as the scroll for the fan. Additionally, a partition separates the fan from an adjacent corner further enhancing the formation of a scroll while providing a flow passage and a location for at least a part of the active noise control structure.

An annular isolator is provided having a metal tube which acts as a spring while defining a flow path and a resilient member located between two loading plates. The resilient member supports the weight of one of the members being coupled and the tube acts as spring as to transmitting vibration.

The angular extent of the flow path in a fan scroll is extended by reducing the rate of radial expansion of the flow path. By extending the angular as circumferential extent of the scroll flow path downstream of the fan impeller ANC structure can be located in/on the scroll while being located a sufficient distance downstream of the impeller. The flow path length can be increased without increasing the cubage of the scroll and, if desired, a further flow path increase can be achieved by a combination of the reduced rate of radial expansion together with increasing the cubage.

The internal fan arrangement of an AHU is reconfigured by discharging directly from the scroll into a 90.degree. elbow. The bend of the elbow defines a converging section terminating in a throat which leads to a diverging section. Additionally, the ANC structure is located in the elbow with the noise sensing microphones being located at or near the fan outlet.

A split air conditioner unit having a distributor located indoors for delivering refrigerant to a plurality of evaporator flow circuits. The distributor is connected to an outdoor condenser by a refrigerant line containing an expansion device. A strainer is located at the entrance to the distributor that homogenizes the expanded two phase mixture so that refrigerant of equal quality is delivered to each of the evaporator flow circuits.
