A self-adjusting bolt action skewer clamp for a bicycle trainer includes a hollow, outer support member and an inner engagement member located inside the support member. The support member has a helical slot with a pocket at one end. The inner engagement member is attached to a handle via a carrier contained within a passage defined by the inner engagement member, and the handle can slide within the helical slot such that the inner engagement member will extend past the support member as the handle is rotated around the helical slot. Once it reaches the pocket, the handle will remain locked in place. The clamp tightens onto a rear axle of the bicycle. The spring allows the bicycle trainer to accommodate bicycles of various sizes without adjustment.

A bicycle trainer includes a reverse resistance unit mounting arrangement that is configured to increase traction between a bicycle wheel and a resistance unit upon an increase in the speed of rotation of the wheel. The reverse resistance unit mounting arrangement is configured to mount the resistance unit in a suspension-type manner and has an actuator that initially positions the resistance unit against the bicycle wheel. The reverse resistance unit mounting arrangement tends to pivot the resistance unit against the bicycle wheel during use, to automatically bias the wheel toward the resistance unit to prevent slippage between the bicycle tire and the roller of the resistance unit.

A controlled pressure resistance unit engagement system for bicycle training devices uses a clutch arrangement to limit the maximum torque applied. A universal mounting bracket for a bicycle rack includes a pair of upstanding members extending from opposite sides of a base member. Each upstanding member includes aligned pivot openings through which a pivot pin is positioned to pivotally secure an equipment carrier support member between the upstanding members. The upstanding members also each include two sets of auxiliary openings spaced from the pivot openings and from one another. Depending upon the particular configuration of the support member, each pair of aligned auxiliary openings can be utilized to lock the support member in a transport position, or to stop or maintain the support member in a non-use position.

A stabilizing support for engaging an article such as a bicycle with a vehicle-mounted carrier which includes a rearwardly extending support member. The support generally includes a first support section having a recess within which a portion of the bicycle frame is received. The support further includes a stabilizer section which is pivotably mounted relative to the first support section. The stabilizer section includes a pair of legs which are spaced apart from each other to define an open area therebetween. The stabilizer section can be moved in either direction to various positions so as to receive and engage portions of the bicycle frame or other parts of the bicycle within the open area. The stabilizer section engages the bicycle at a location vertically offset from the location at which the bicycle frame is engaged with the first support section, to stabilize the bicycle.

Anti-sway stabilizing support for an equipment carrier

A removable bicycle beam for adapting a bicycle frame for engagement with a vehicle-mounted bicycle rack. The beam includes a pair of securing mechanisms disposed on opposite ends of a central body. Each securing mechanism includes a fixed arm fixedly secured to the central body and a pivoting arm pivotally secured to the central body. Each arm includes a gripping portion extending outwardly from the central body that cooperates with the gripping portion of the other arm to releasably encircle and engage a component of the bicycle, such as the handle bar stem or the seat post. The pivoting arm and fixed arm lie in a substantially horizontal plane when in a closed position, and the pivoting arm is movable in the horizontal plane toward and away from the fixed arm. Each pivoting arm can be locked in a closed, engaged position by one of a pair of releasable latch mechanisms disposed within the central body and engagable with the pivoting arms. The central body is formed of a pair of telescopically mounted tubes that enable the beam to shift the securing mechanisms with respect to one another in order to accommodate bicycles having various lengths between the handle bar stem and the seat post.
