A method for automatic target recognition in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, comprising: capturing a real SAR image of a potential target at a real aspect angle and a real grazing angle; generating a synthetic SAR image of the potential target by inputting, from a potential target database, at least one three-dimensional potential target model at the real aspect angle and the real grazing angle into a SAR regression renderer; and, classifying the potential target with a target label by comparing at least a portion of the synthetic SAR image with a corresponding portion of the real SAR image using a processor.

Methods and systems for model based automatic target recognition in SAR data

A system and methods for co-site and multi-path interference mitigation are presented. A reflection signal is received from at least one aircraft surface at a sensor near a receiver antenna, and a conformal reflective phased array antenna coupled to at least one aircraft surface is configured to steer the reflection signal. The reflection signal is steered using the conformal reflective phased array antenna to reduce an amplitude of the reflection signal at the receiver antenna based on the reflection signal received at the sensor.

Systems and methods for processing echo signals in a Doppler ultrasound system from a region of interest. An ultrasound beam is electronically steered to deliver ultrasound to and receive echo signals from a plurality of sample locations in the region of interest. The echo signals for each sample location are processed to extract Doppler shift signals and Doppler shift data representing the Doppler shift signals are generated. The Doppler shift data accumulated for the sample locations can be used to detect the presence of blood flow in the region of interest, and identify the location in the region of interest at which the presence of blood flow is detected. The blood flow can be tracked by updating the location of the detected blood flow in the region of interest. The blood flow can be further monitored by combining the locating and tracking functionality with an m-mode ultrasound image.

A mobile platform is provided which has at least one component having an array of distributed piezoelectric transmitters and an associated array of distributed receivers. The receivers are configured to receive ultrasonic transmissions from the transmitters. Data from the receivers is stored in memory and processed through an algebraic reconstruction tomography algorithm which forms an image of the defect within the component. An algorithm is used to determine the position and size of the defect.

A method and apparatus for steering a beam from a phased array antenna mounted on a mobile platform. Rate sensors mounted on the phased array antenna are used to update lower bandwidth data from the mobile platform, resulting in improved pointing performance.

A system and method for detecting damage to a structure is provided. The system includes a voltage source and at least one capacitor formed as a layer within the structure and responsive to the voltage source. The system also includes at least one sensor responsive to the capacitor to sense a voltage of the capacitor. A controller responsive to the sensor determines if damage to the structure has occurred based on the variance of the voltage of the capacitor from a known reference value. A method for sensing damage to a structure involves providing a plurality of capacitors and a controller, and coupling the capacitors to at least one surface of the structure. A voltage of the capacitors is sensed using the controller, and the controller calculates a change in the voltage of the capacitors. The method can include signaling a display system if a change in the voltage occurs.

A method, apparatus, and system for automatic detection of targets from radar data are disclosed. Ground moving target indicator radar is used to collect radar data which is then filtered to suppress intensity of the clutter ridge. For each working point in a set of radar data, a working first-sense circular transmit/first-sense circular receive radar cross section, a working first-sense circular transmit/second-sense circular receive radar cross section, and a working asymmetry angle are calculated from a scattering matrix, then analyzed to classify the working point as a target point or a clutter point. This analysis suitably is performed by comparing data calculated for each working point to basis data collected in a look-up table in which combinations of a first-sense circular transmit/first-sense circular receive radar cross section, a first-sense circular transmit/second-sense circular receive radar cross section, and an asymmetry angle have been classified as target points or clutter points.

This disclosure relates to a noninvasive means for detecting, counting and characterizing emboli moving through the arterial or venous circulation. An ultrasonic transducer is applied to the skin or other tissues of the subject at sites such as over the temporal bone on either side of the head of the subject, on the neck, on the chest, the abdomen, arm, leg, within the esophagus, or surgically exposed organs or blood vessels. Using standard ultrasonic Doppler techniques, Doppler-shifted signals are located which are proportional to the blood flow velocity in the blood vessel(s) of interest. Spectral analysis is performed on the received signal using the fast Fourier transform or other appropriate technique to determine the frequency components in the Doppler shift spectrum. Further analysis of the spectra is used to delineate and characterize Doppler shift signals due to blood from Doppler shift signals due to emboli having a variety of compositions.
