A composition and method for forming plant containers, such as plant propagation trays providing control of plant root growth. The method includes applying to a sheet of thermoformable plastic an aqueous coating composition including between approximately 20% and 45% by weight non-delaminating acrylic latex, between approximately 8% and 30% by weight copper hydroxide, between approximately 2% and 20% by weight filler, and between approximately 0.5% and 5% by weight dispersant. The coating is dried and the plastic sheet is heated to a temperature sufficient to form the plastic. The plastic sheet is then formed into a desired shape.

Method of making a plant container

There is disclosed an improved copper complex bactericide/fungicide and a method of making and using the same. The improved bactericide/fungicide is prepared by forming an aqueous solution of a partially neutralized, water-soluble polycarboxylic acid having a molecular weight of between approximately 1,000 and 300,000 and a pH of between approximately 3 and 9. To this aqueous solution is added a copper-containing compound which when combined with said aqueous solution releases copper (II) ions which will form a water-soluble complex with said partially neutralized polycarboxylic acid. The water-soluble copper complex is applied to plants to prevent or inhibit bacterial and fungal disease growth thereon.

Copper complex bactericide/fungicide and method of making same

A plastic composition having incorporated copper is provided in accordance with the invention. The plastic material can be processed at low temperatures, readily absorbs water, and has good film forming properties. In particular, the plastic material is a polycaprolactone and the copper is derived from copper hydroxide and/or copper carbonate. The plastic material is useful for forming plant containers that promote a branched root structure.

Plastic composition

There is disclosed a granular copper hydroxide dry flowable bactericide/fungicide having improved biological activity and a method for making and using same. A bactericide/fungicide is made by forming a homogeneous aqueous slurry containing between approximately 5% and 20% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) of a first dispersant selected from the group consisting of partially neutralized polyacrylic acid having a pH of between approximately 5 and 10 and an average molecular weight of between approximately 1,000 and 10,000 and lignin sulfonate, between approximately 0% and 5% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) of a second dispersant for bentonite clay, between approximately 40% and 80% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) phosphate stabilized cupric hydroxide and between approximately 6% and 30% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) bentonite clay; and spray drying the slurry to thereby form a dry free flowing granular bactericide/fungicide product. The slurry can also include antifoam and wetting agents. Other partially neutralized polycarboxylic acid polymers useful as the fast dispersant are also disclosed.
