In one aspect, a method for processing media includes accepting a query. One or more language patterns are identified that are similar to the query. A putative instance of the query is located in the media. The putative instance is associated with a corresponding location in the media. The media in a vicinity of the putative instance is compared to the identified language patterns and data characterizing the putative instance of the query is provided according to the comparing of the media to the language patterns, for example, as a score for the putative instance that is determined according to the comparing of the media to the language patterns.

Word spotting false alarm phrases

Methods for personalized listening which can be used with an earpiece are provided. A method includes capturing ambient sound from an Ambient Sound Microphone (ASM) of an earpiece partially or fully occluded in an ear canal, monitoring the ambient sound for a target sound, and adjusting by way of an Ear Canal Receiver (ECR) in the earpiece a delivery of audio to an ear canal based on a detected target sound. A volume of audio content can be adjusted upon the detection of a target sound, and an audible notification can be presented to provide a warning.

Method and device configured for sound signature detection

An improved method and apparatus is disclosed which uses probabilistic techniques to map an input search string with a prestored audio file, and recognize certain portions of a search string phonetically. An improved interface is disclosed which permits users to input search strings, linguistics, phonetics, or a combination of both, and also allows logic functions to be specified by indicating how far separated specific phonemes are in time.

Phonetic searching

An apparatus and method for modifying a speech waveform using sinusoidal speech model parameters, includes finding a net masked threshold for each sinusoid for a normal-hearing subject, and adding the effects of impairment and obtaining an impaired masked threshold. The method also includes finding gain needed for each sinusoid so that its distance above the impaired masked threshold is equal to the distance above normal masked threshold, and multiplying sinusoid amplitudes by the gain. The sinusoidal model is used to address the problem of spread of masking within internal speech components by determining the amount of masking that occurs between surrounding sinusoids. The masked threshold for each sinusoid is determined based on the additive effects of masking by other sinusoids in each frame. The method compensates for recruitment by a transformation to determine how much each sinusoidal amplitude must be amplified in order to maintain the loudness relationships between sinusoids and their masked threshold in the normal-hearing and hearing-impaired domains.
