A projectile launcher includes a body having a rearward end, and a forward end. A pair of arms is pivotally coupled to the body and a bowstring extends between the ends of the pair of arms and is movable between a cocked position and a released position. Tubular torsion bars are coupled to the pair arms to store and release mechanical energy. A mechanical energy delivery system couples the tubular torsion bars to the pair arms. The mechanical energy delivery system transfers mechanical energy to the tubular torsion bars when the bowstring is moved from the released position to the cocked position, and transfers mechanical energy from the tubular torsion bars to the pair arms to move the bowstring from the cocked position to the released position.

A simple and lightweight, quick action snowboard binding securing device allows continuous rotational adjustment of the orientation of the binding with respect to the snowboard without the need for the removal of the rider's boot and without requiring the use of any tools. A clamping mechanism stiffens the binding and allows the rider's boot to rest directly on the binding for optimum performance. The device can be used with all bindings which have a central aperture to receive a securing disk or hold down plate.

A safety enhanced pivoting door operator is disclosed which includes an apparatus for selective restraint of the swing door to resist movement of the door in a first direction beyond the fully closed position during routine use while yet allowing movement of the door in the first direction beyond the fully closed position when sufficient force is applied to the door in non-routine situations, for example to allow emergency exit or the like. The operator includes a motor and a drive train connected with a rotatable pivot upon which the door is movable. The apparatus includes a mounting member having a deflectable bar connected therewith. A member for impeding movement of the door beyond the fully closed position is connected with the pivot, the impeding member and the deflectable bar coming into contact during normal use to thus resist movement of the door beyond the closed position, but the bar being deflectable by the impeding member to allow such movement when sufficient non-routine force is applied to the door.

A speed control apparatus for controlling the rate of motion of a door is disclosed which includes a shaft connected with the door by a gear train for causing rotation of the shaft at a preselected relative rate of rotation related to the rate of motion of the door by a preselected ratio, a braking assembly including a brake drum spaced from the shaft and first and second brake shoes pivotably connected at one end thereof with a carrying member attached to the shaft and having a single biasing spring adjustably connected between the other ends thereof, the brake shoes having a contact surface made of a non-asbestos friction material for contacting the brake drum when a selected rate of rotation of the shaft is exceeded, and an improved housing which is more efficiently sealable against invasion of moisture into the housing and the escape of lubricants from the housing.

Sheet feeder having adaptive mechanism for assuring dependable automatic operation when the stack of sheets to be fed consists of sheets having varying thicknesses and weights. In a sheet feeder having pickers to move a document from the top of a stack of sheets supported by a moveable table to a feed-in position, the latter possibly including a vacuum belt for moving the document, sensors supply signals to indicate a sheet has been picked. After moving the pickers and table to initial positions, the controller moves the picker to a predetermined reference position. If a sheet is picked above or below the predetermined initial position, the position of the table is adjusted accordingly. In a second embodiment in a recirculating automatic sheet feeder, the table is initially positioned then after feeding the sheets from the stack once, it is initialized at a second predetermined position depending on the number of documents in the stack and on the position of the table prior to picking the documents a second time.
