An outside air handling unit and method for delivering conditioned air to individual heating/cooling zones of a building regardless of whether heating/cooling in needed. The outside air handling unit includes a liquid supply line which is connected to and draws liquid from a chilled supply line of the building.

A modular water based heating and cooling system for providing chilled or heated water to terminal devices in a building to heat/cool individual zones in the building. The system includes a flow control device in fluid communication with a riser chilled water supply line, a riser chilled water return line, a riser heated water supply line, and a riser heated water return line. The flow control device includes first control valves and second control valves. Terminal device supply lines extend from the flow control device and are connected to respective first control valves. Terminal device return lines extend from the flow control device and are connected to respective second control valves. The first control valves and the second control valves cooperate to supply required chilled water or heated water through the terminal device supply lines to terminal devices based on the cooling/heating requirements of the terminal devices.

Modular liquid based heating and cooling system

Systems for limiting pressure differences in dual compressor chillers are provided. To achieve the efficiency benefits of series flow chillers within a single unit, an evaporator and/or a condenser may be partitioned into separate chambers by a baffle. Process fluid may then flow through one chamber of the evaporator and/or condenser prior to entering the other. This configuration creates a pressure differential between chambers which may reduce compressor head and result in greater chiller efficiency. However, to maintain the structural integrity of the evaporator and/or condenser baffle, a system for limiting this pressure differential may be employed. This system may include an evaporator pressure equalization valve, a common liquid line, or an equalizing line between separate liquid lines. Methods of operating dual compressor chillers using these systems are also provided.

A probe is used to detect axial movement of a rotating part such as a shaft. The probe includes a probe tube portion that protrudes into an annular groove on the rotating part. When the rotating part moves axially, one or the other side surfaces of the groove contacts the probe tube. This contact leads to a changed state of the probe, that is sensed by a sensor.

The condenser has a condenser shell with a reservoir portion, condenser tubes for cooling vapor flowing over the condenser tubes to condense the vapor to a liquid, and subcooler tubes in a subcooler compartment for cooling liquid within the reservoir portion. The condenser includes a drainage member for forming a void in the reservoir portion and having an upper surface inclined relative to a horizontal plane for directing the liquid from the condenser tubes toward the entrance to the subcooler compartment. The drainage member reduces the amount of liquid required in the reservoir for efficient subcooler and system operation by occupying space in the liquid reservoir that normally is occupied by liquid.

A tube support includes at least two parallel plates. With more than two plates, the outer plates are longer in the direction of flow than the inner plates. Pins are provided proximate the leading and trailing edges of the plates in order to maintain the plates in a spaced relationship. The pins proximate each edge are positioned slightly over two tube diameters from the other pins along the same edge. Additionally, the pins along the trailing edge are positioned approximately one tube diameter from the pins proximate the leading edge in a direction along the edge in order to stagger the leading and trailing pins.
