A film with a broad molecular weight distribution, excellent impact strength and a high dart drop value or moderate dart drop value accompanied by good optical property consisting of a bimodal terpolymer comprising a low molecular weight homopolymer of ethylene and a high molecular weight terpolymer of ethylene, 1-butene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin, or a bimodal terpolymer comprising a low mo-lecular weight polymer which is a binary copolymer of ethylene and a C4 to C12 alpha-olefin and a high molecular weight polymer which is either a binary copolymer of ethylene and 1-butene, if the low molecular weight polymer is a binary co-polymer of ethylene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin, or a terpolymer of ethylene, 1  -butene and a C6 to C12 alpha-olefin.

Film with high impact strength

A film of a polyethylene produced by polymerization catalysed by a single site catalyst and comprising as comonomers to ethylene at least two Calpha olefins, preferably but-1-ene and hex-1-ene.

Polymer film

A multimodal polymer composition for pipes is disclosed as well as a pipes made thereof. The polymer is a multimodal polyethylene with a density of 0.930-0.965 g/cm , and a viscosity at a shear stress of 747 Pa of at least 650 Pa.s, said multimodal polyethylene comprising a low molecular weight (LMW) ethylene homopolymer fraction and a high molecular weight (HMW) ethylene copolymer fraction, said HMW fraction having a weight ratio of the LMW fraction to the HMW fraction of (35-55):(65-45). Preferably, the multimodal polyethylene has a viscosity at a shear stress of 2.7 kPa of 260-450 kPa.s; and a shear thinning index (SHI) defined as the ratio of the viscosities at shear stresses of 2.7 and 210 kPa, respectively, of SHI &equals;50-150, and a storage modulus (G&prime;) at a loss modulus (G&Prime;) of 5 kPa, of G&prime; &gE;3000 Pa. The pipe is made of the multimodal polymer composition and withstands a stress of 8.0 MPa gauge during 50 years at 20&deg; C. (MRS8.0). Preferably, the pipe has a rapid crack propagation (RCP) S4-value, determined according to ISO 13477:1997(E), of &minus;5&deg; C. or lower and a slow crack propagation resistance, determined according to ISO 13479:1997, of at least 500 hrs at 4.6 MPa/80&deg; C. The polymer composition affords good non-sagging properties to pipe made thereof.

Polymer composition for pipes

The present invention concerns a multilayered polymer film structure, which comprises at least one first layer (,) containing a thermoplastic polymer and at least one second layer (,), arranged adjacent to said first layer, containing a liquid crystalline polymer. According to the invention, the second layer (,) consists essentially of a compounded polymer blend formed by the liquid crystalline polymer and a thermoplastic polymer, the liquid crystalline polymer of the second layer forms a continuous phase, and the first and the second layers (,) contain the same thermoplastic polymer. The oxygen transmission rate of the second layer is less than about 150 cm,/(m,&middot;d&middot;bar), determined according to the standard ASTM D 3985-81, and the water vapour transmission rate of the integral film structure is less than 10 g/(m,&middot;24&middot;h) at RH 80% 23&deg; C., determined according to ASTM F 1249-90. The present structure can be used as a barrier layer in packages.
