An inductive current digital-to-analog converter (DAC) includes: a power supply input adapted to be coupled to a power supply; a load terminal adapted to be coupled to a load; an inductor between the power supply input and the load terminal; and inductor current control circuitry. The inductor current control circuitry has: a sense signal input configured to receive a sense signal representative of the inductor current; a control code input configured to receive a control code; a set of switches having respective control terminals; and a set of control circuit outputs coupled to the respective control terminals of the set of switches. The inductor current control circuitry is configured to adjust control signals provided to the set of control circuit outputs based on the sense signal and the control code.

Inductive current digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and related control options

A circuit includes a peak detector, a diode, a dynamic clamp circuit, and an offset correction circuit. The peak detector generates a voltage on the peak detector output proportional to a lowest voltage on the peak defector input. The anode of the diode is coupled to the peak detector input. The dynamic clamp circuit is coupled to the peak detector input and is configured to clamp a voltage on the peak detector input responsive to a voltage on the diode's anode being greater than the lowest voltage on the peak detector's input. The offset correction circuit is coupled to the peak detector output and is configured to generate an output signal whose amplitude is offset from an amplitude of the peak detector output.

A switch circuit includes: a power transistor having a source coupled to a supply terminal, a drain coupled to an output terminal, and a gate; a bipolar transistor having a collector coupled to the supply terminal, an emitter coupled to the gate of the power transistor, and a base; a bias circuit to control an emitter current of the bipolar transistor; and a resistor coupled between the supply terminal and the base. A control circuit receives a current at a current input to turn the bipolar transistor on responsive to a control input being in a first state, and ceases receiving the current at the current input to reduce a gate-source voltage of the power transistor responsive to the control input being in a different second state.

A CML to CMOS signal conversion system includes a CML/CMOS converter coupled to a resistor, which is further coupled to a current compensation circuit at a reference node. The CML/CMOS converter receives a differential signal and applies a first or a second current to the reference node through the resistor. The current compensation circuit comprises a differential transistor pair coupled to a current source, a transistor, and a first, a second, and a third current mirror. The differential transistor pair receives the differential signal and has a pair of output terminals. The first current mirror is coupled to the output terminals. The third current mirror is coupled to the reference node. The first and third current mirror are coupled together by the transistor and sink the first current. The second current mirror is coupled to the output terminals and the reference node and sinks the second current.

Systems and methods for wireless power transfer with fractional timing resolution are described. In some embodiments, an electrical power transmitter may include a transistor and a rising edge control circuit configured to control a gate of the transistor to produce a rising edge of a pulse at a time selected with a resolution greater than a full-clock period.

A hard disk drive write drive method and integrated circuit that provide a configurable overshoot current based on the length of the pattern in the write current signal that is being written to the hard disk by the write driver. The hard disk write driver adds a first overshoot current to all patterns in the write current signal and adds an additional second overshoot current to patterns in the write current signal shorter than a first duration. The hard disk drive write driver utilizes an H-bridge circuit configured to add the first overshoot current and the additional second overshoot current to the write current signal. The H-bridge circuit is comprised of four switching elements that are configured to generate a first overshoot current for all pattern transitions of the write current signal and generate a second overshoot current for pattern transitions shorter than the first duration.

Additional overshoot current HDD write driver circuit

One embodiment includes a pulse duration control system for a magnetic disk-drive system. A rise delay system generates first control voltages in response to a write data input signal changing between a first state and a second state. A fall delay system generates second control voltages in response to the write data input signal changing between the first and second states. A comparator system generates a rising-edge overshoot signal and a falling-edge overshoot signal based on a comparison of the first and second control voltages. The rising-edge overshoot signal can set a duration of a positive overshoot current pulse for a write current at a transition of the write data input signal from the first state to the second state, and the falling-edge overshoot signal can set a duration of a negative overshoot current pulse for the write current at a transition from the second state to the first state.

Disk-drive pulse duration control system

A control circuit to provide a control current to control an amplitude of a write current in a magnetic media drive. The control circuit has an output circuit for providing the control current with an amplitude dependent on a bias voltage. A bias current path provides the bias voltage to the output circuit, and a current diverting circuit is connected to divert current from the bias current path. A programmable ramp voltage generator operates in response to a degauss enable signal, and a voltage-to-current converter receives the programmable ramp voltage to control the current diverting circuit to divert current from the bias current path at a rate determined by the programmable ramp voltage. The bias voltage and the write current decay according to the programmable ramp voltage. The write current decay can be made linear and independent of a beginning write current amplitude.

Method and circuitry for programmably controlling degauss write current decay in hard disk drives

One embodiment of the invention includes a system for writing data onto a magnetic disk. An output driver provides a first write current through a first output transistor in a first state and provides a second write current through a second output transistor in a second state. The first and second write currents can be provided to a disk write head to store opposing binary values, respectively. A bias current generator switches a first bias current between an intermediate voltage node in the second state and a first control node in the first state, and switches a second bias current between the intermediate voltage node in the first state and a second control node in the second state. The first and second bias currents can be provided to set a bias voltage at the first and second control nodes to bias the first and second output transistors, respectively.

Write data switching for magnetic disk drives

One embodiment of the invention includes a system for writing data onto a magnetic disk. An output driver provides a first write current through a first output transistor in a first state and provides a second write current through a second output transistor in a second state. The first and second write currents can be provided to a disk write head to store opposing binary values, respectively. A bias current generator switches a first bias current between an intermediate voltage node in the second state and the first control node in the first state, and switches a second bias current between the intermediate voltage node in the first state and the second control node in the second state. The first and second bias currents can be provided to set a bias voltage at the first and second control nodes to bias the first and second output transistors, respectively.

In hard disc drive (HDD) applications, there is often a need for input buffers that can operate at a variety of voltages (i.e., 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V) as well as tolerate high voltages (i.e., 5V). Traditional buffers, however, usually lack the ability to operate at these varying voltages and lack the ability to tolerate high voltages. Here, a buffer is provided that fits this criteria through the use of a switching circuit and an anti-saturation circuit (as well as other circuitry).

An input current channel device is described. This device comprises a first terminal for receiving a reference signal; a second terminal for receiving a first target signal; a pass through device coupled to the first terminal, the pass through device operative for transmitting a delayed reference signal in response to receiving the reference signal; a first combination logic device coupled to the first terminal and the second terminal, the first combination logic device operative for transmitting a first combination logic signal in response to receiving the reference signal and the first target signal; a selection device coupled for receiving the delayed reference signal, the first combination logic signal, and a first synchronization signal, the selection device operative for selectively transmitting a second synchronization signal, and wherein selectively transmitting the second synchronization signal reduces skew between the reference channel and the first target channel.

One embodiment of the invention includes a driver circuit. The driver circuit comprises an output transistor that is biased to provide an output signal in response to an input signal. The driver circuit also comprises at least one programmable variable resistor configured to provide a bias magnitude of the output transistor that sets a power of the driver circuit to be commensurate with a data-rate of the input signal.

A disclosed system comprises creating a first delay based on the temperature of the hard disk drive, creating a second delay based on the temperature of the hard disk drive, and creating a pulse based on the first and second delay.
