Apparatus and method for examining heterogeneously catalyzed reactions

The invention relates to an apparatus for analyzing reactions, comprising at least one reactor () and at least two sample vessels (), wherein, in the case of an apparatus having one reactor (), the reactor () is connected to at least two sample vessels (), and, in the case of an apparatus having more than one reactor (), each reactor () is connected to at least one sample vessel (). The invention further relates to a method of analyzing reactions in such an apparatus.

Device and method for examining reactions

The invention relates to a method for investigating process streams comprising five or more different hydrocarbon-containing components. In the method at least one process flow line () is in operative connection with an online IR spectrometer () and an online gas chromatograph (). The process stream passed through the process stream conduit () is subjected to an online characterization which comprises measurements both with the online IR spectrometer and with an online gas chromatograph. The spectral data and the chromatography data are mathematically related to one another by suitable statistical models, thus allowing training of a model used for evaluating the analytical data and for characterizing the process streams. The method according to the invention is characterized by short measurement times in the range of seconds and milliseconds and a high accuracy. The method according to the invention for investigating process streams preferably relates to investigation of process streams deriving from processes proceeding in parallel, the process streams preferably deriving from reaction spaces arranged in parallel.

Method for analysing process streams

An apparatus and a method are used for investigating the naphtha reforming process in catalyst test devices with reactors arranged in parallel. The apparatus has a plurality of reactors arranged in parallel with reaction chambers (R, R, . . . ), a product fluid supply, a process control, and at least one analysis unit. Each individual reactor has an outlet line for the product fluid stream, wherein the analysis unit is operatively connected to each outlet line for the product fluid stream and the apparatus is functionally connected to the control of the apparatus. In carrying out the method, naphtha-containing reactant fluid streams are brought into contact with catalysts in the individual reactors and the product fluid streams are subsequently supplied to the online analysis unit from the respective outlet lines of the individual reactors and analyzed. Using the evaluation of the online analytical characterization data, the process parameters of the respective reactor unit are adapted. The process steps of analytical characterization, evaluation, and adaptation of process parameters are repeated for the duration of the investigation.
