The present invention relates to image analysis of pathology images. In order to improve reliability in image analysis of pathology images, a method is provided for providing support in identifying at least one feature of a tissue sample in a microscopic image. The method comprises the steps of providing a first image of a first microscopy 5 modality representing an area of the tissue sample, providing a second image of a second microscopy modality representing the said area of the tissue sample, generating a first high intensity image by applying a first high intensity filter to the first image or a first low intensity image by applying a first low intensity filter to the first image to obtain first information of the at least one feature, generating a second high intensity image by applying 10 a second high intensity filter to the second image or a second low intensity image by applying a second low intensity filter to the second image to obtain second information of the at least one feature, calculating a correlation of an image pair comprising one of the first high intensity image and the first low intensity image and one of the second high intensity image and the second low intensity image for correlating the first information and the second 15 information of the at least one feature, and outputting the calculated correlation for providing support in identifying the at least one feature of the tissue sample.

In order to enhance compatibility with multiple fluorescence channels for calibrating a fluorescence microscope, a calibration slide is provided that comprises a substrate and a pixel layout. The pixel layout comprises a plurality of spaced apart metal nanostructures arranged on a surface of the substrate. The metal nanostructures are arranged to produce plasmon resonances that allow absorbing light at an excitation wavelength to produce photo-luminescence and/or fluorescence light for generating a fluorescent image. In order to improve uniformity at microscopic level and to enhance stability in time for color calibration, a calibration slide () is provided for a digital pathology scanning microscope. The substrate is optically transparent. The metal nanostructures are arranged to produce plasmon resonances for generating a color image under a bright-field illumination. A system for detecting a plurality of analytes in a sample includes an aperture array and a lens array for generating and focusing a plurality of excitation sub-beams on different sub-regions of a substrate. These sub-regions can be provided with different binding sites for binding different analytes in the sample. By detecting the different luminescent responses in a detector, the presence or amount of different analytes can be determined simultaneously. Alternatively or in addition, collection of the luminescence radiation can be performed using the lens array for directly collecting the luminescence response and for guiding the collected luminescence response to corresponding apertures. The excitation sub-beams may be focused at the side of the substrate opposite of the lens array, and an immersion fluid is provided between the lens array and the substrate to increase the collection efficiency of the luminescence radiation.

Microarray characterization system and method

An illumination detection system includes an excitation radiation source and associated radiation processing arrangement for focusing the excitation radiation from the radiation processing arrangement onto an analysis region of a sample. A radiation collection arrangement collects radiation from the analysis region of the sample resulting from the excitation, and a detector detects the collected radiation. The focused excitation radiation includes an excitation line which is evanescent in the sample. This combines the advantages of line scanning (reduced analysis time) and evanescent excitation (reduced background signal) and therewith enables increase measurement speed and precision for point of care application.
