A travelling grate conveyor for advancing a mould consisting of juxtaposed identical mould parts is associated with an endless mould supporting belt or conveyor formed by a plurality of closely spaced and interconnected rod members extending transversely of the longitudinal direction of the conveyor. The upper run of the belt rests on and is advanced by the travelling grate walking wacking beam conveyor.

Apparatus for the stepwise advance of moulds formed by juxtaposed

For the purpose of separating castings from the sand or similar material forming a string of moulds, each of the castings proper together with a lump of heat damaged mould material totally surrounding the casting is separated from the mould string. After having been subjected to an appropriate degree of cooling, the castings are separated from the lump material which, after sufficient regeneration, may be re-used together with the non-damaged material of the moulds.

Foundry apparatus for the separation of castings from casting moulds

A system for making sand molds each having associated therewith a core member composed of a core element or a network of core elements is disclosed. The system includes a machine for making and depositing onto a conveyor, mold sections having joint faces in engagement to form a string of closed-up mold sections. Each mold section has a mold cavity defined in its joint face. A core making machine is positioned adjacent the string of closed-up mold sections and include at least two core box sections, each having a joint face and being arranged for mating of their joint faces for molding a core member therebetween. One of the core box sections retains the mold core member when the faces of the core box sections are parted. The core box section is placed into an orientation such that its joint face is parallel with the exposed face of the last mold section. A core mask is provided for fetching the core member from the core box section and transferring the core member to the last mold section. Translatory means are provided for moving the core mask between a core picking up position where it engages with the core box section while its joint face is parallel with the exposed joint face of the last mold section, and a core delivery position where it engages the exposed joint face of the last mold.

In a casting apparatus using a mould which comprises a horizontal series of identical mould parts and presents at least one casting cavity at each joint between successive mould parts, the mould is advanced stepwise through a pouring station with a length of step that equals a multiple of the thickness or axial length of each mould part.

Method in the operation of an apparatus for producing castings

A method of inserting a core in a sand mold wherein the sand mold is provided with a cavity for receiving the core, and, during the insertion of the core in the cavity, the sand around the core is compressed by an element or, if the core print is provided with a retaining projection, a further projection on the core print is provided for compressing the sand around the cavity in the sand mold which receives the retaining projection.

Method of inserting cores in a sand mold

In a casting apparatus using a mould which comprises a horizontal series of identical mould parts and presents at least one casting cavity at each joint between successive mould parts, the mould is advanced stepwise on a guideway including a driving section having a reciprocating support plate with apertures to periodically supply compressed air to reduce the friction between the plate and the mould sufficiently to neutralize the driving effect of the plate.

In an automatic mold part producing apparatus having a mold chamber which is filled with mold forming material that subsequently is compressed between a pair of opposite end walls, the mold forming material is forced into said mold chamber by means of pressurized air, the pressure of which is gradually or stepwise increased during the chamber filling operation, for the purpose of achieving uniform compactness or density of the mold forming material throughout the height of the mold chamber.
