A fire suppressant blend comprises CF3I; at least one hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) or hydrochlorofluoro-olefin (HCFO), or both; and carbon dioxide.

Fire suppression blends of CF3I, HCFOs and CO2

A fire suppression blends of CF3I and 2-BTP with mol ratios from 1:5 and 5:1 are capable of passing peak inerting and sub-inerting tests. The CF3I:2-BTP fire suppression blends can also include carbon dioxide of up to 80% of the fire suppression blend to provide additional cooling.

A fire suppression composition comprises CFI and CO, wherein said CFI is present in an amount of from 23 mol. % to 39 mol. %, based on the total moles of CFI and COpresent in the fire suppression composition. The seal assembly includes a seal plate. The gas turbine engine further includes a gutter configured to collect oil slung from the seal plate. The gutter extends only partially around the seal plate. A two-phase liquid/inert gas flow inerting fire suppression system is provided having improved liquid fire suppressant distribution within the inert gas flow. The system includes a flow distribution network having a first pipe interconnected with a second pipe at a flow splitting tee. A liquid flow redistribution device is disposed in the first pipe upstream with respect to fluid flow of the flow splitting tee.

Fire suppression system with improved two-phase flow distribution

A nozzle for a fire suppression system has a bonnet and a deflector base. An inlet port extends through the bonnet along the axis of symmetry of the bonnet. The inlet port receives an outlet end of a fire suppression delivery pipe to mount the bonnet to the pipe. The bonnet has a frustoconical surface which extends radially outward and downward from the inlet port. The deflector base is secured to and co-axially aligned with the bonnet at a predetermined distance to create a flow passageway therebetween. The flow passageway imparts a down angle to a suppressant flow discharging from the nozzle to better disperse the suppressant within the fire zone. A discharge port at the circumferential edge of the bonnet and deflector base constricts the suppressant flow to atomize the droplets of liquid suppressant discharged into the fire zone.

A hybrid fire suppression system includes a supply of pressurized inert gas, a pipe network connected in inert gas flow communication to the inert gas supply, a first inert gas nozzle, a second inert gas nozzle, and a water storage cartridge having an interior volume defining a water reservoir storing a limited amount of water. The water reservoir communicates with the second inert gas spray nozzle. The first inert gas nozzle connects with the first terminus for introducing a flooding flow of inert gas only into a first protected space. The second inert gas nozzle connects with the second terminus for introducing a flooding flow of inert gas and the limited amount of water from the water reservoir into the second protected space.

Hybrid inert gas fire suppression system

A system for reducing jet noise emission from an internally mixed gas turbine engine exhaust, comprising a fan/core flow mixer having a plurality of mixer lobes and a common flow nozzle having an equal number of tabs located along a circumferential edge of an aft end of the nozzle. There is a predetermined clocking relationship between the plurality of mixer lobes and the plurality of nozzle tabs that results in reduced exhaust noise emission, most evident in the lower frequency range. A method for reducing jet noise emission from an internally mixed gas turbine engine exhaust comprises selectively aligning a circumferential distribution of a mixed flow vorticity field produced by a fan/core mixer with a circumferentially distributed exhaust flow vorticity field produced by a modified common flow nozzle at an exit plane of the engine exhaust.
