A ball launcher and method for actuating wellsite equipment at a wellsite is disclosed. The wellsite has wellhead equipment positioned at an inlet of a wellbore. The ball launcher includes a housing, a ball release, and a housing extension. The housing has a passage for receiving balls. The ball is release positionable about the housing. The ball release includes a feeder to selectively and sequentially release the balls from the housing. The housing extension includes a hopper tube and a feed tube. The hopper tube has an inlet to receive the balls from the housing, the feed tube extending at an angle from the hopper tube. The feed tube has an exit a distance above the wellhead equipment to release the balls therethrough whereby the balls are dropped into and activates the wellsite equipment in the wellbore.

Apparatus and method for determining the location of the source of seismic energy around a well are provided. Multiple seismic receivers, each receiver having orthogonal seismic sensors, are axially spaced on a tool which is capable of sending real-time seismic signals to the surface over conventional wireline. A method for calculating the location with respect to the receivers is also provided, the method employing data from all the sensors and a performance function to minimize error in the determination of location, and a simplified method is provided for determining if a fracture has extended past a selected depth in a formation.

Single well system for mapping sources of acoustic energy

An apparatus and a method are provided for detecting and measuring vibrations of a selected portion of a drill string in a bore hole. The vibrations are detected by a transducer which produces an electrical signal representative of the vibrations. The signal is applied to a band-pass filter which produces an output signal representative of vibrations occurring at frequencies within the pass band of the filter. The pass band is repetitively stepped through a predetermined frequency range under the control of digital circuitry.
