An engine fuel injection system is provided, wherein pumping maximum possible fuel required by the engine and by-passing excess fuel not used by the engine are eliminated, the speed of the variable speed electric fuel pump for the system being controlled so as to pump only the quantity of fuel required to operate the engine under certain sensed engine and/or ambient operating conditions, such control being provided by a fuel pressure sensor/electronic pump motor speed control.

Internal combustion engine fuel injection apparatus and system

The proposed fuel injection system for gasoline engines eliminates or reduces the excessive fuel by-pass of current systems by use of an engine driven fuel pump or by modulating fuel pump speed and fuel delivery so as to be directly proportional to engine speed.

A combustion engine is shown with a fuel metering device having a fuel reservoir or fuel bowl with such, in turn, having a float-controlled fuel inlet valve; a fuel supply conduit leading from a vehicular fuel tank to the inlet of the fuel bowl has a normally open solenoid valve and a flow meter situated in series therewith; a control device receiving signals indicative of engine speed and rate of fuel flow to the fuel bowl is effective to cause the solenoid valve to close and terminate further fuel flow whenever the numerical ratio of the rate of fuel flow divided by the engine speed exceeds a preselected magnitude of such a ratio or index.

Apparatus and method for preventing the spillage of fuel from a fuel

A rotatable flywheel is selectively operatively connectable to the power drive train of a related vehicle and is effective to absorb energy from the vehicular ground-engaging drive wheels during vehicle decleration thereby also providing for at least a degree of vehicular braking; a clutch is provided to enable the vehicular ground-engaging drive wheels to accelerate the flywheel while preventing the flywheel from driving such wheels through such clutch; an additional clutch is shown as being provided to enable selectively variable degrees of operative connection between the wheels and flywheel; and a related control is provided for affecting such selectively variable degrees of operative connection.

Vehicular energy storing means and system

A carburetor having a fuel reservoir containing fuel therein has a fuel inlet valve for controlling the admission of fuel into the reservoir, a float urges the inlet valve shut when the fuel level within the reservoir attains a preselected level, an idle fuel passage including a fluid restrictor communicates between the fuel within the reservoir and the carburetor induction passage, a conduit generally in parallel with the fuel inlet valve has one end communicating with the reservoir and an other end effective for communicating with a source of fuel, an auxiliary valve is situated in series with the fuel inlet passage upstream of the fuel inlet valve, a relatively low flow-rate valve is serially situated in the parallel conduit, and a fuel level indicator is responsive to the actual level of the fuel in the reservoir, the auxiliary valve is opened to fill the reservoir through the fuel inlet valve to a preselected level and have the float shut the inlet valve after which the auxiliary valve is closed, and then the low flow-rate valve supplies fuel to the reservoir at a rate of flow equal to the specified rate of flow to be discharged to the engine and the flow area of the fluid restrictor is adjusted so that the elevational level of the fuel in the reservoir is constant indicating that the flow discharge from the carburetor is exactly the same as the flow rate of fuel entering the carburetor.

An automotive fuel system which has a fuel tank, a fuel pump, a fuel metering device for metering fuel flow to an associated fuel-consuming engine, and a fuel reservoir (such as, for example, a carburetor fuel bowl), has a valving assembly interposed generally between the outlet of the fuel pump and the fuel reservoir with such assembly being responsive to, for example, the associated vehicle experiencing a crash impact or a roll-over condition whereupon such valving assembly becomes effective to prevent the further flow of fuel from the fuel pump into the fuel reservoir.
