A method for computer-assisted medical navigation and/or pre-operative treatment planning includes detecting the current position of a patient or a part of a patient's body and the positions of medical treatment devices or treatment-assisting devices. The detected positional data can be assigned to body structure data, in order to jointly use the body structure data in assignment with the positional data, within the context of assisting the treatment. The body structure data can be used which is obtained based on a three-dimensional generic model, where the model is adapted by two-dimensional data linking with patient-characteristic, two-dimensional detection data.

A method for displaying images in a medical navigation system assisted by x-ray images includes calibrating an x-ray device in the medical navigation system and producing a plurality of two-dimensional x-ray images of a patient using the x-ray device. During the producing step, positions of the x-ray device are determined using the medical navigation system in order to produce positional data. Data associated with the two-dimensional x-ray images is converted into three-dimensional data. The two-dimensional x-ray images, production information corresponding to the two-dimension x-ray images, and the three-dimensional data to the navigation system. At least the two-dimensional x-ray images are displayed on an image output of the medical navigation system.

Navigation-calibrating rotationally asymmetrical medical instruments or implants

A method and system for calibrating x-ray image data for medical navigation using a calibration instrument that is detected and tracked by a medical navigation system and has a plurality of localization structures that are detectable in x-ray images. The localization structures are arranged on at least two spaced supports. The method includes producing an x-ray image without a patient of the localization structures while the calibration instrument is tracked by a medical navigation system. After the x-ray image is registered in the medical navigation system using the localization structures, at least one of the spaced supports is removed from the calibration instrument. A second x-ray image is taken of a patient together with the calibration instrument with the support removed. The two images are compared to determine whether there is sufficient correspondence of the localization structures visible in the two images.
