A method for installing operating system software on a machine computer for controlling machines includes transmitting further operating system software, in addition to old operating system software already running on the machine computer, while the machine is operating. The method also includes installing the further operating system software on the machine computer while the machine is operating, transferring user data from the old operating system software to the further operating system software while the machine is operating, and switching off the machine computer and choosing between starting the old operating system software and starting the newly installed further operating system software when switching on the machine again.

A method for displaying events in printing material processing machines, includes capturing the events with at least one camera and storing the captured events on a computer. Sensors for detecting machine states are provided in the printing material processing machine. Records of the events recorded by the camera as a video sequence are electronically marked in dependence on the detected machine states. A method for controlling operating processes or measuring processes in connection with a printed image applied to a printing material, includes acquiring image information from the printed image on the printing material with a camera device. The data acquired by the camera is compared in a computer with digital image data of the printed image. The printing material is displayed on a desk, the camera device detects objects or persons covering the printing material and specific operating, processes or measuring processes are triggered on the basis thereof. A method and an apparatus distinguish the origin of operator inputs in electronic control systems having at least one first operating element and at least one second operating element. A first signal is processed in the electronic control system when the at least one first operating element is operated. The first signal differs from a second signal emitted by the at least one second operating element when the latter is operated, by virtue of an electronic identifier assigned to the at least one first operating element.
