An apparatus for making a golf ball is disclosed. The apparatus is a molding assembly for making a golf ball which includes a mold body that defines a molding cavity. The molding cavity is adapted to accommodate and preferably retain a golf ball core during a molding operation of one or more layers about the core. The molding assembly includes at least one material flow inlet, at least one material flow channel extending between and providing fluid communication with a material flow inlet and the molding cavity. At least one portion of the material flow channel has a plurality of bends and at least one branching intersection adapted to promote turbulence in a liquid flowing therethrough. A method of making a golf ball is also disclosed. A golf ball made from the disclosed molding apparatus and/or process is also disclosed.

Apparatus for making a golf ball

An apparatus is provided for separating a flow of golf balls into a first set of golf balls which meet predetermined specifications and a second set of golf balls which do not meet specifications. The apparatus includes a first elongated cylinder having a central axis positioned at an angle with respect to the horizontal. The elongated cylinder has an open lower end, an open upper end and an interior diameter to allow for the rolling of golf balls of the first set to move therethrough and out of the lower end. A large aperture is formed in an upper surface of the elongated cylinder at a central extent thereof. The interior surface of the elongated cylinder is of an increased diameter between central extent thereof and the upper end thereof. A supplemental small aperture is formed in the upper surface of the elongated cylinder offset from the uppermost extent thereof. The supplemental small aperture is formed at an angle with regard to the axis of the elongated cylinder. A short delivery cylinder is provided having a vertical axis and being formed with a lower end coupled to the large aperture and an upper end for delivering golf balls to be separated.

Golf ball sizing apparatus

An injection mold for producing a two-piece golf ball includes first and second cavities having mating hemispherical inner surfaces with retractable pins for supporting a solid core within the cavities spaced from the inner hemispherical surface. A runner system is provided in the mold for distributing flowable plastic material. A plurality of tunnel gates substantially equally spaced about the perimeter in one of the sections interconnect the inner hemispherical surfaces to the runner system with the tunnel gates being vertically offset from the parting line surface of the two sections. The pins support the solid core in its premolding condition such that the center of the core is slightly offset from the centerline of the mold in the direction of the inner hemispherical surface of the cavity containing the tunnel gates.
