An end of train device (EOT) suitable of use on a railway vehicle includes a mounting unit for installation on a car of a railway vehicle, a position sensor configured to detect vertical alignment and orientation during the installation, and a feedback mechanism configured to provide feedback during the installation with respect to the vertical alignment and orientation. Further, a monitoring and communications system and a method for monitoring mounting integrity of an EOT are described.

End of train device with self-alignment and mounting integrity monitoring capabilities

An end of train device () suitable of use on a railway vehicle includes an enclosure (), one or more accelerometers () positioned inside the enclosure () and providing accelerometer data of a railway vehicle () when travelling on a railway track (), and a tracking device () positioned inside the enclosure () and providing location data, wherein the accelerometer data and location data are analyzed to determine a condition of the railway track (). An electronic train device suitable of use on a railway vehicle includes a radio module configured, through operation of at least one processor, to support and monitor a plurality of communication channels for messages transmitted between multiple electronic train devices on multiple railway vehicles, and to repeat and/or route a transmitted message using a channel of the plurality of communication channels to provide reliable communication between the multiple electronic train devices.

Communications between end of train devices and head of train devices on multiple trains

An automatic train communications system includes a plurality of electronic train devices and a multi-channel communications network, wherein each electronic train device comprises a radio module configured to support a plurality of communications protocols and a plurality of frequency bands, and select a communications protocol and/or a frequency band from the plurality of communications protocols and frequency bands based on at least one performance criterium to reliably communicate with one or more electronic train devices via the multi-channel communications network.

Multi-channel communication between end of train device and head of train device

A mid of train (MOT) mobile unit for use with a train is provided. The MOT mobile unit comprises a first hose for mounting the MOT mobile unit between first and second railway cars of the train located near a middle of the train and a radio for communications with an end of train (EOT) unit disposed on one end of the train and for communications with a head of train (HOT) unit disposed on other end of the train. With the first radio, the MOT mobile unit provides a repeater device functionality for communicating between the EOT unit and the HOT unit. The MOT mobile unit is configured to receive a power from a brake line of the train that runs a length of the train, wherein the power is derived from a compressed air in the brake line by means of an air-powered generator that recharges a battery.

Mid of train unit

A system to arm one device with another device on a freight train having a locomotive and a last car is provided. The system comprises an end of train (EOT) device disposed in the last car of the freight train and a head of train (HOT) device disposed in the locomotive of the freight train. The EOT device includes a soft button which is configured to be virtually pressed in response to an electronic command. The HOT device includes a button which is configured to be pressed by a user. A web-based service at a central server is configured to receive an initiate arming sequence command from a wireless communication device of the user and issue the electronic command to the EOT device to virtually press the soft button via a web user interface. The first radio is configured to transmit an arming request message to the HOT device for displaying on the display of the HOT device. The user is prompted to press the button of the HOT device to cause the HOT device to proceed with an arming process with the EOT device.
