A photographic imaging element is disclosed which comprises a support having on one side thereof at least one silver halide emulsion layer and having, in order, on the opposite side thereof an electrically-conductive layer coated from a coating composition comprising a polythiophene/polyanion composition containing a polythiophene with conjugated polymer backbone component and a polymeric polyanion component, and a protective topcoat comprised of a polyurethane binder which has a tensile elongation to break of at least 50% and a Young's modulus measured at 2% elongation of at least 50000 lb/in ; wherein the electrical resistivity of the electrically-conductive layer before photographic processing is less than 2&times;10 &OHgr;/&square;, after photographic processing is between 1&times;10 &OHgr;/&square; and 1&times;10 &OHgr;/&square;, and increases by at least one order of magnitude as a result of photographic processing. Photographic imaging elements of the invention effectively minimize both raw (pre-photographic processing) static marking and processed (after photographic processing) photographic element sticking caused by the accumulation of electrostatic charges, and additionally have excellent resistance to scratch and abrasion.

Photographic element containing an electrically-conductive layer

In accordance with the present invention a photographic element contains a first electrically-conductive layer and a second electrically-conductive layer. The first conductive layer has an electrical resistivity of less than 1.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA./.quadrature. before film processing and an electrical resistivity of greater than 1.times.10.sup.11 .OMEGA./.quadrature. after film processing. The second conductive layer has an electrical resistivity of between 1.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA./.quadrature. and 1.times.10.sup.11 .OMEGA./.quadrature. both before and after film processing. Both of the electrically-conductive layers are transparent. In an alternative embodiment, the photographic element contains a transparent electrically-conductive layer containing a first electrically-conductive agent and a second electrically-conductive agent. The electrically-conductive layer has an electrical resistivity of less than 1.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA./.quadrature. before film processing and has an electrical resistivity of between 1.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA./.quadrature. and 1.times.10.sup.11 .OMEGA./.quadrature. after film processing. The first conductive agent is one in which the conductive properties of the material do not survive film processing. The second conductive agent is one in which the conductive properties of the material are substantially unaffected as a result of film processing.

Photographic element containing two electrically-conductive agents

The present invention is a photographic element having a support, at least one silver halide emulsion layer superposed on a first side of the support and a protective overcoat superposed on a second said of the support. The protective overcoat includes a polyurethane having a tensile elongation to break of at least 50% and a Young's modulus measured at 2% elongation of at least 50,000 lb/in.sup.2, an interpolymer composed of repeating units of A and B wherein A comprises a fluorine containing acrylate or a fluorine containing methacrylate monomer and B comprises an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing hydratable groups and an electrically conductive agent.

The present invention is an imaging element which includes a support, at least one image forming layer superposed on the support and a protective overcoat superposed on the support. The protective overcoat is farthest from the support. The protective overcoat is formed by the coating and subsequent drying of a coating composition of an aqueous medium having therein a water dispersible siloxane-containing polyurethane.

The present invention is a motion picture film including a support having on one side thereof an antihalation undercoat and at least one silver halide emulsion layer. The motion picture film has on the opposite side thereof an antistatic layer and a protective overcoat. The protective overcoat includes a layer of a polyurethane binder having a tensile elongation to break of at least 50% and a Young's modulus measured at a 2% elongation of at least 50000 lb/in.sup.2, and a topcoat farthest from said support. The topcoat is an interpolymer having repeating units of A and B wherein A is a fluorine containing acrylate or methacrylate monomer and B is an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing hydratable groups.

The present invention is a photographic element including a support, at least one silver halide emulsion layer superposed on said support; and at least one auxiliary layer. The auxiliary layer includes a gelatin-grafted-polyurethane which is formed by coating and subsequent drying of a coating composition comprising gelatin covalently bound to a polyurethane through a grafting agent, wherein a ratio of gelatin to polyurethane is from 1:10 to 2:1.

The present invention is an imaging base which includes a polyester film support and an adhesion promoting layer directly adhered to a surface of the support. The adhesion promoting layer is formed by the coating and subsequent drying of a coating composition comprising a gelatin-grafted-polyurethane. The gelatin-grafted polyurethane is covalently bound to the polyurethane through a grafting agent wherein the ratio of gelatin to polyurethane is from 1:10 to 2:1. In one embodiment of the invention the imaging support is coated with at least one silver halide emulsion layer to form a photographic element.

Imaging elements, such as photographic, electrostatographic and thermal imaging elements, comprised of a support, an image-forming layer and an electrically-conductive layer consisting essentially of electrically-conductive fine particles, such as antimony-doped tin oxide particles and, as a binder, water-insoluble polymer particles containing sulfonic acid groups. Auxiliary layers for imaging elements applied from aqueous coating

The present invention describes an imaging element wherein one layer is coated from an aqueous coating solution having a film forming binder. The film forming binder includes a carboxylic acid containing vinyl polymer or copolymer having a glass transition temperature greater than 60.degree. C. and an acid number of from 60 to 260. The carboxylic acid groups of the vinyl polymer or copolymer are reacted with ammonia or amine to provide a pH of the coating composition of from about 7 to 10.

Coating composition for imaging elements

In accordance with this invention, a photographic film especially suited for motion imaging film applications such as motion picture film or television film has on one side of a support material, in order, a process surviving, electrically conductive subbing layer, a photographic emulsion, and a protective overcoat; and on the opposite side a carbon black-containing backing layer, and optionally, a lubricant that overlies the backing layer. The carbon black-containing layer provides antihalation and antistatic protection for the unprocessed film. The conductive subbing layer retains its antistatic properties after processing so that the motion imaging film is protected from the generation of static charge after the carbon black-containing layer is removed during processing. The present invention is an imaging element which includes a support and at least one image forming layer. The imaging element further includes an antistatic layer and a protective layer overlying the antistatic layer. The protective layer is formed from an aqueous coating solution containing a film forming binder and a crosslinking agent. The film forming binder is a carboxylic containing vinyl polymer or copolymer having a glass transition temperature of greater than 50.degree. C. and an acid number of from 60 to 260. The carboxylic acid group of the vinyl polymer or copolymer are reacted with ammonia or amine to provide a pH of the coating solution of from 7 to 10.
