An electric vehicle charging station with a field upgradeable communications facility is provided. The invention includes a sealable housing including a first compartment and a second compartment, the second compartment including an access to an upgrade port; a partition within the housing that is adapted to insulate the first compartment from the second compartment, the partition including an opening providing access the upgrade port; and an EVSE charging station control circuit configured to recognize a communication module when coupled to the upgrade port and to use the communication module for communications if the communication module is connected. Certain exemplary embodiments can provide a system, which can comprise a set of electrical energy monitoring devices. Each of the set of electrical energy monitoring devices can be adapted to be mounted in a circuit breaker panel substantially adjacent to a corresponding circuit breaker. The system can comprise an energy monitoring master controller adapted to be communicatively coupled to each of the set of electrical energy monitoring devices.

Devices, systems, and methods for monitoring energy systems

An electrical fault detection device for use in a branch of a power circuit that utilizes signals from an AC line current sensor coupled to an electrical distribution line having a primary and neutral lines, a line high-frequency sensor coupled to the electrical distribution line, a differential current sensor coupled to the primary and neutral lines, and a ground fault current sensor coupled to the primary and neutral lines. A signal conditioner receives the signals outputted by AC current line current sensor, the line high frequency sensor, the differential current sensor and the ground fault current sensor and generates a signal indicative of the load current associated with a branch of the power circuit. Output of the signal conditioner is sampled and processed by a processing resource. The processing resource has stored therein data representing a plurality of time-versus-current curves that define a plurality of regions in which tripping may or may not occur. One region has time data and current data that define a time-duration for a particular current magnitude for which no tripping will occur. Another region has time data and current data that define a time-duration of a particular current magnitude for which tripping will occur. Processing resource processes sampled signal to determine the region to which the processed time data and current data correspond, and generates a signal to initiate tripping if the sampled signal yields a time duration for a particular current magnitude that corresponds to a region for which tripping must occur.

Multifunctional residential circuit breaker

The present invention relates generally to a load center. More particularly, the invention encompasses a self contained kilowatt-hour meter which is integral to a standard load center. The present invention is also directed to a novel printed circuit board and housing for the self contained kilowatt-hour meter. The self contained kilowatt-hour meter of this invention measures the energy usage of a facility, such as, residential unit, a house, an apartment, a condominium, and then it communicates the energy usage in a timely manner or as desired to a local requester, such as, the owner, occupant or any other entity, as well as, to another requester, such as, a remote requester, for example, an energy provider.

Self contained kilowatt-hour meter integral to standard load center

A system, method, and device for monitoring an AC induction motor are disclosed. The exemplary system provides the architecture of an intelligent motor controller. On one hand, the controller has self-commission and adaptive tuning capability and can provide smooth start and stop for motor driven systems. On the other hand, the controller can provide fault detection, power metering, and history data logging, to ensure motor operates under optimal conditions. The exemplary system may have one or more sensors for monitoring characteristics of the AC induction motor and producing one or more inputs from the characteristics.

AC motor controller

A system, method, and device for a circuit breaker used in residential and commercial panels are disclosed. The exemplary circuit may have an overload protection device causing a disruption in a circuit when the circuit is overloaded. One or more sensors may detect a condition of the circuit and transmit a signal associated the detected condition to an integrated circuit via sensor ports. The integrated circuit may cause a disruption in a circuit when the signal of the detected condition is out of predetermine limit. The integrated circuit may also determine if a sensor is coupled to a sensor port.

Electronic breaker system

A system, method, and device for protecting an induction motor are disclosed. The exemplary system may have a module for determining the current drawn by the motor and a module for determining the state of the motor. The system may calculate a used thermal capacity based on a first formula when the motor is in an active state. The system also calculates the used thermal capacity based on a second formula when the motor is in an inactive state. When the used thermal capacity attains a threshold, the relay is tripped thus removing current to the motor and preventing motor from overheating. A method to derive thermal time constants from desired trip time limits (such as those defined by IEC standards or the thermal limit curves provided by motor manufacturers) is also presented. For example, the thermal time constants can then be used in tacking motor used thermal capacity throughout various motor states.

System, device, and method for over-current relays protecting motors

A method and a current sensor for measuring a current in a conductor. The sensor comprises a non-magnetic, flexible core member having a first end and a second end. A locking head having a channel therethrough is coupled to the first end of the core member. A first sensor conductor winding layer is mounted on the core member. Wherein the second end releasably engages the locking thread in the channel and adjustably configures the core member to surround the conductor as the second end is moved through the channel. In another embodiment the current sensor includes a locking tang within the channel and a plurality of sought tooth members on a portion of the core member and configured to selectively engage the locking tang as the second end of the core member is moved through the channel.

Flexible current sensor

A circuit breaker system (FIG. ) using electronic trip units is disclosed. The electronic trip units are coupled to a communications bus whereby the electronic trip units can be reconfigured, controlled, and/or monitored by a central computer. Further, the electronic trip units include a data acquisition circuit (FIG. ) that uses chopping to provide better accuracy and increased dynamic range of current measurements.

A circuit breaker having a trip mechanism and an electronic module having an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a control circuit, a composite circuit which generates a composite signal voltage, a residual circuit, the circuit breaker comprising a first power supply to provide a first voltage signal and a second power supply to provide a second voltage signal. An analog override circuit in the circuit breaker is configured to receive the first voltage signal from the first power supply, the second voltage signal from the second power supply and the composite signal voltage from the composite circuit. The analog override circuit provides an override signal to the ASIC which is coupled to a logic gate configured to receive a first trip signal from the control circuit and a second trip signal from the ASIC and provides a third trip signal to the trip mechanism.

A circuit breaker system ( ) providing application specific module (ASM) instantaneous overcurrent indication is disclosed herein (FIG. ).
