Stable aqueous artificial latices having a core-shell structure are prepared from two otherwise incompatible polymers in a blend also including a copolymer of said polymers. For example, an artificial latex in which the particles have a styrene-acrylonitrile core and an EPDM shell can be prepared.

Vulcanized blends of EPDM rubber and aromatic polyester are provided by melt extruding mixtures of aromatic polyester, such as polyalkylene terephthalate and functionalized EPDM reactive rubber pairs. An EPDM functionalized with epoxy groups can be vulcanized with an EPDM rubber functionalized with thermally labile ester groups capable of generating epoxy reactive carboxylic acid.

Polyphenylene ether-olefin polymer compositions having improved properties are obtained by first blending an acyl group- or electrophilic group-functionalized polyphenylene ether of relatively high molecular weight with a lower molecular weight unfunctionalized polyphenylene ether to form a blend of which the lower molecular weight polymer comprises about 45-60% by weight, subsequently blending with an electrophilic group- or acyl group-functionalized olefin polymer (respectively), preferably a glycidyl methacrylate-grafted EPDM copolymer, and finally blending with a curing agent such as hexamethylenediaminemonocarbamic acid.

Polyphenylene ether-olefin polymer compositions with improved properties

A composition prepared by blending liquid crystalline polyesters and linear polyesters under reactive conditions in the presence of at least one poly(O- or N- epoxy alkyl substituted) cyclic amide, imide, or imidate; wherein the blend exhibits an anisotropic melt phase. Articles made from the composition have increased strength stiffness and improved drip characteristics. A preferred embodiment includes a polyalkylene terephthalate, a liquid crystalline polyester with structural units including p-benzoic acid and naphthoic acid, and triglycidyl isocyanurate.

Ethylenically unsaturated cyclic ortho esters are prepared by the reaction of a hydroxy-substituted cyclic ortho ester such as 4-hydroxymethyl-2-methoxy-2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane with acryloyl chloride, methacryolyl choride, vinylbenzyl chloride or the like. They form polymers, especially EPDM graft copolymers, which are useful in the formation of copolymer-containing compositions with polyesters, polyamides and the like. The copolymer-containing compositions have excellent physical properties and may be employed to compatabilize blends of the same polymers.

The invention relates to polymer mixtures which comprise a polyphenylene ether and a polyoctenylene. By using as a polyphenylene ether a mixture of at least two polyphenylene ethers, one having a comparatively low viscosity and one having a comparatively high viscosity, a polymer mixture is obtained having improved properties. The properties are improved in particular with respect to the flow properties, while no reduction of the heat distortion occurs.
