An alcohol-free transparent perfume is disclosed containing an alcohol-free perfume base, water and a stable transparent oil-in-water microemulsion flavor concentrate formed of water, at least one hydrophobic perfume oils, at least one cationic surfactant and at least one non-ionic surfactant in the absence of lower alkanols wherein the mixing ratio of water, oil and surfactant is defined according to the shaded area of FIG. 1.

Alcohol free perfume

Control of fabric softener viscosity by increasing the amount of fragrance in the formulation and to thereby influence the amount of fragrance that can be added to the fabric softening formulations. A mixture of a perfume or fragrance chemical and special group of surface active agents is prepared. Thereafter the mixture is added to a fabric softener base formulation to produce the fabric softener consumer product.

Use of special surfactants to control viscosity in fabric softeners

Volatile substances such as fragrances, perfumes, deodorizers, room freshener compositions and the like are dispensed in vapor phase from a container holding the substance in liquid phase at room temperature under atmospheric pressure. The container has a window covered with a microporous membrane with an active structure formed from a material having a critical surface tension that is below the surface tension of the liquid substance. The active membrane material has a critical surface tension that is below 22 dynes/cm and preferably below 20 dynes/cm while the surface tension of the liquid is at least 22 dynes/cm. One example is an ultraviolet irradiated polymer composition with 0.2 microns nominal pore size.

Volatile substances such as fragrances, perfumes, deodorizers, room freshener compositions and the like are dispensed in vapor phase from a container holding the substance in liquid phase at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure. The container has a window covered with a microporous membrane with an active structure formed from a material having a critical surface tension that is below the surface tension of the liquid substance. Generally the active membrane material has a critical surface tension that is below 22 dynes/cm and preferably below 20 dynes/cm while the surface tension of the liquid is at least 22 dynes/cm. One example is an ultraviolet irradiated polymer composition with 0.2 microns nominal pore size. In all instances the volatile substance is first sorbed within a porous element and desorbed therefrom for transport through the membrane only in its vapor phase.

Described is an article which dispenses at a constant rate a volatile composition of matter into the atmosphere surrounding the article which volatile composition of matter can be, for example, a perfume composition or air freshener, which article is a container which is a hollow totally enclosed flexible, rigid or partially flexible-partially rigid structure comprising a thin shell totally enclosing an inner void, with the thin shell having a part thereof as a microporous polymer which contains a plurality of finite filler particles which that when the article is located in the ambient environment, the volatile material molecules are passed through the microporous polymer by means of an adsorption desorption mechanism or by means of capillary action. The volatile substance which is a composition of matter is enabled to pass through the microporous polymer at a constant mass flow rate of both the individual volatile components and the total composition. Thus, the composition of matter passing through the microporous polymer remains unchanged insofar as its composition is concerned. The invention is enabled using a microporous polymer having the property of transporting water vapor at a rate of between 100 up to a 1000 g/m.sup.2 /day at about 25.degree. C. and at about 50% relative humidity at about atmospheric pressure and having an air transport rate of 100-20,000 Gurley seconds (gs) and a thickness in the range of from about 0.01 mils up to about 20 mils.

Described is an article useful for dispensing at a constant rate, continuously or discontinuously for discrete periods of time a volatile composition of matter such as an air freshener or perfume composition into the atmosphere surrounding said article, the article being a hollow totally enclosed flexible, rigid or partially flexible-partially rigid structure comprising a thin shell totally enclosing an inner void with part of the thin shell comprising a microporous polymer containing a plurality of finite solid filler particles whereby when the article is located in the ambient environment, the volatile material molecules are transported through the porous polymer at a substantially constant mass flow rate both of the individual volatile components and totally through the porous polymer. Described is the use of homopolymers of (epsilon caprolactone) defined according to the structure: ##STR1## and, optionally, ##STR2## as controlled release materials for physiological or psychological diagnostic compositions, pheremones, insect repellent compositions, animal repellent compositions, and/or aroma augmenting or enhancing media for use in perfume compositions or perfumed articles or colognes; wherein n represents an integer of from about 500 up to about 1,200 with the proviso that the average 'n' varies from about 600 up to about 800. Also described are mixtures of such homopolymers with other polymers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, mixtures of polyethylene and polyvinyl acetate, copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, and the like, useful for controlled release of such physiological or psychological diagnostic compositions, pheremones, insect repellents, animal repellents and perfume materials into a gaseous environment surrounding the polymer matrix. Also described are methods for blending such polycaprolactone homopolymers whereby a first amount of a liquified polycaprolactone is admixed in an extruder, for example, with a diagnostic material and/or scent imparting material and/or an animal repellent material and/or insect repellent material and/or a pheremone material. The solidified pellets may if desired, then be mixed in, for example, a second extruder with a second amount of unscented polycaprolactone or other polymer, e.g., polyolefin, the second amount of polymer being the same or somewhat larger then the first amount. The mixture thus obtained may again be solidified and, if desired, repelletized. The resulting pellets may, if desired, be formed into functional articles by means of, for example, injection molding.
