A communication node includes: one or more flow table(s) that stores a control information item(s) as set by a controller; and a packet processing unit that searches for a control information item, having a match condition matching a received packet, from the one or more flow table(s), and processes the received packet in accordance with the control information item. In a case where a preset loop instruction is added in the control information item having the match condition matching the received packet, the packet processing unit performs a preset number of times of search for another control information item in the one or more flow table(s) and execution of the searched control information item.

In an open flow network system, a packet to be subjected to multicast transmission is transmitted to a plurality of VLANs which are different. Specifically, a packet transfer processing unit determines, when receiving a packet, whether or not the packet is for the multicast transmission. In case of the multicast transmission, whether or not the packet has been completely transmitted to ports specified for destinations is checked. When not having completely transmitted, a packet header of a packet is rewritten, and the written packet is copied and transmitted to a destination port and a network processor (NP). Through the loop-back processing, whether or not the packet received from NP is for the multicast transmission is determined. In case of the multicast transmission, it is checked whether or not the packet has been completely transmitted to the ports specified for destination. When having not been completely transmitted, the packet is rewritten in the packet header and is copied and transmitted to the destination port and the NP. When having been completely transmitted, the packet is discarded and the processing is ended.

In an open flow system, it is made possible to confirm a flow having succeeded or failed in the registration on a flow table. Specifically, a controller transmits and receives an open flow message to and from a switch. The switch is provided with a flow table which manages flows registered from a controller, and a flow table reading section which reads corresponding data, a flow table control section which performs processing of addition, deletion and modification of a flow entry, and a platform function managing section which determine whether an object flow entry is valid or invalid according to an inquiry from the flow table control section. The flow table has a normal flow table and a save flow table. A valid flow entry which conforms to configuration data of the switch is registered on the normal flow table. An invalid flow entry which does not conform to the configuration data of the switch is registered on the save flow table.
