A method is provided for operating a vehicle-external charging device () for charging an electric or hybrid vehicle. The method checks an electrical connection of an insulation monitor () between a contactor () of the charging device () and a charging cable () of the charging device () when the contactor () is in a closed switching state and also uses the insulation monitor to check an electrical insulation of the charging cable () when the contactor () is in an open switching state. A charging device () also is provided.

Method for operating a vehicle-external charging device for charging a vehicle and charging device

A traction battery charging station for charging a traction battery of a motor vehicle having an electric traction motor. The charging station includes a converter that feeds DC voltage into a pair of two charging lines during charging operation, a charging controller, and an insulation monitor having two measuring resistors that are each connected to a charging line and are able to be connected to protective earth via a respective resistor switch. The insulation monitor monitors the electrical insulation of the pair of charging lines with respect to protective earth during non-charging and during charging of the traction battery. A test mode controller has a non-restricted non-charging test mode in which one resistor switch is closed and the other resistor switch is open at the same time, and a symmetric charging test mode in which both resistor switches are closed at the same time or open at the same time.

Traction battery charging station

A method for charging an energy storage element of a vehicle using a charging apparatus which provides a charging current (I) and a charging voltage (U) at an operating point. The charging apparatus has a plurality of energy supply modules connected in parallel, having the following method steps: in an optimization step, a distribution of the charging current (I) to the energy supply modules connected in parallel, in the case of which the charging apparatus has a maximum overall efficiency, is respectively determined for a plurality of predefined operating points; in a charging step which follows the optimization step, a distribution of the charging current (I) to the individual energy supply modules of the charging apparatus, in the case of which the charging apparatus has a maximum overall efficiency, is selected on the basis of a predefined charging current (I) and a predefined charging voltage (U).

Method for charging an energy storage element of a vehicle using a modular charging apparatus with high overall efficiency

A power electronic module () for a charging station having an input-side power factor correction circuit, a voltage link and an output-side DC chopper. The power factor correction circuit is of three-phase () design for three-phase current; each phase () has at least one high-voltage-side switch and one low-voltage-side switch; and diodes that prevent current from flowing back are installed. Also disclosed is a corresponding charging station and an electricity charging station.
