The present application relates to glass-ceramics that are white, opalescent or opaque, of the lithium aluminosilicate (LAS) type, containing a solid solution of &#x3b2;-spodumene as the main crystalline phase. The application also provides articles that are constituted, at least in part, of said glass-ceramics, precursor glasses for said glass-ceramics, and a method of preparing said article. Said glass-ceramics have a composition that is free from arsenic oxide and antimony oxide, with the exception of inevitable traces, and that contains the following, expressed as percentages by weight of oxides: 60% to 70% of SiO, 18% to 23% of AlO, 3.0% to 4.3% of LiO, 0 to 2% of MgO, 1 to 4% of ZnO, 0 to 4% of BaO, 0 to 4% of SrO, 0 to 2% of CaO, 1.3% to 1.75% of TiO, 1% to 2% of ZrO, 0.05% to 0.6% of SnO, 0 to 2% of NaO, 0 to 2% of KO, 0 to 2% of PO, 0 to 2% of BO, with NaO+KO+BaO+SrO+CaO&#x2264;6% and NaO+KO&#x2264;2%, and a maximum of 500 ppm of FeO.

The present application provides transparent glass-ceramics of &#x3b2;-quartz of composition containing a small content of lithium, articles constituted at least in part of said glass-ceramics, glasses precursors of said glass-ceramics, and also a method of preparing said articles. Said glass-ceramics have a composition, free of arsenic oxide and antimony oxide, except for inevitable traces, expressed as percentages by weight of oxides, containing: 62% to 68% of SiO; 17% to 21% of AIO; 1% to &#x3c;2% of LiO; 1% to 4% of MgO; 1% to 6% of ZnO; 0 to 4% of BaO; 0 to 4% of SrO; 0 to 1% of CaO; 1% to 5% of TiO; 0 to 2% of ZrO; 0 to 1% of NaO; 0 to 1% of KO; with NaO+KO+BaO+SrO+CaO&#x3c;6%; optionally up to 2% of at least one fining agent comprising SnO; and optionally up to 2% of at least one coloring agent.

Transparent &#x3b2;-quartz glass-ceramics with low lithium content

The present application provides LAS type transparent glass-ceramics of &#x3b2;-quartz of composition containing a high content of zinc, articles constituted at least in part of said glass-ceramics, glasses precursors of said glass-ceramics (with a low viscosity at high temperature), and also a method of preparing said articles. Said glass-ceramics present a composition, free of arsenic oxide and antimony oxide, except for inevitable traces, expressed as percentages by weight of oxides, containing: 64.5% to 66.5% of SiO; 19.0% to 20.6% of AlO; 3.0% to 3.6% of LiO; 0 to 1% of MgO; 1.7% to 3.4% of ZnO; 2% to 3% of BaO; 0 to 3% of SrO; 0 to 1% of CaO; 2% to 4% of TiO; 1% to 2% of ZrO; 0 to 1% of NaO; 0 to 1% of KO; with NaO+KO+BaO+SrO+CaO&#x2264;6%; optionally up to 2% of at least one fining agent comprising SnO; and optionally up to 2% of at least one coloring agent.

Beta-quartz glass-ceramics with high zinc content
