A catheter product suitable for storage until use includes a user package sealed inside a product package. The user package has a film forming an enclosure containing a urinary catheter having a hydrophilic coating and a water-based liquid in direct contact with the hydrophilic coating on the urinary catheter. The product package has a first water vapour transmission rate (first WVTR) that configures the product package to be porous to water vapor to allow water vapor from the water-based liquid that exits the user package during storage to pass through the product package to adapt the user package to be dry to touch when a user opens the product package.

A urinary catheter assembly includes a first outer package having a first material, a second inner package contained inside of the first outer package, and an intermediate cavity defined as an area inside the first outer package and outside the second inner package. The first material has a first water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) measured according to ASTM F1249 at 90% relative humidity (RH) and 38° C. between 1 g/(m2·24 h) and 6 g/(m2·24 h). The second inner package has a second material having a second WVTR measured according to test method A at 65% RH and 30° C. below 3 g/(m2·24 h). The second inner package contains a swelling medium and an intermittent urinary catheter with a hydrophilic coating.

Intermittent urinary catheter assembly

A urinary catheter assembly is provided. The catheter assembly has a first outer package (), which contains a second inner package (). The second inner package includes a hydrophilic coated, intermittent catheter) and liquid swelling medium. The first outer package is made of a first material with a WVTR value between 1 and 6 g/(m&#xb7;24 h) and the second inner package is made of a second material with a second WVTR value below 3 g/(m&#xb7;24 h). An intermediate cavity () is defined inside the first outer package, but outside the second inner package. The first and second WVTR-values are balanced in such a way that the relative humidity (RH) is below 90% in the intermediate cavity. This prevents condensation on the inner surface of the first outer package and on the outer surface of the second inner package.
