A system and method for distributed and coordinated image processing of tomographic images utilizing processors on a medical imaging device and a separate workstation is disclosed. The system includes an image acquisition device to acquire image data of a subject and an image processor to receive the image data therefrom. The image processor is programmed to reconstruct initial images of a region-of-interest (ROI) from the image data, identify initial images on which to perform image correction, and generate an image correction request for the images identified for image correction, with the image correction request specifying a processing operation to be performed on the respective images. The image processor is further programmed to transfer the reconstructed initial images to a separate workstation that automatically initiates the image correction upon verifying a presence of an image correction request on the initial images so as to generate corrected images.

System and method for distributed processing of tomographic images

A method and system for motion estimation and compensation are disclosed. Initially, a set of one or more initial images is reconstructed using acquired imaging data. Further, one or more regions of interest are identified in this set of reconstructed initial images. At least a set of filters is applied to the identified regions of interest to generate a sequence of filtered images. Particularly, each of the filtered images in the generated sequence of filtered images includes data acquired near a different reference point. Subsequently, a motion path corresponding to each region of interest is determined based on one or more correspondences in the sequence of filtered images.

Method for computed tomography motion estimation and compensation

A technique is provided for imaging a field of view using an X-ray source comprising two or more emission points. The two or more emission points may be independently operated. Independent operation of the two or more emission points in performed in accordance with a list of commands that specifies the operation of the emission points. The list of commands, in one embodiment, is stored in a sequence buffer. In other embodiments, the list of commands is generated for a given usage, without being stored in a sequence buffer.

Method and system for X-ray imaging

A method for managing clinical study (CS) information for a clinical research entity using a server system coupled to a centralized database and at least one client system is provided. The centralized database has a plurality of templates stored therein. The method includes receiving at the server system CS information relating to at least one patient involved in a clinical study wherein the CS information is entered through a user selected template displayed on the client system, storing CS information received at the server system in the centralized database, tracking CS information stored in the centralized database, updating the centralized database periodically with newly received CS information to maintain CS information, and providing CS information in response to an inquiry.

Methods and apparatus for detecting structural, perfusion, and functional abnormalities

A method for extracting information of a cardiac cycle from projection data is presented. The method provides for acquiring one or more sets of computed tomography (CT) projection data. Further, the method includes analyzing the one or sets of CT projection data to obtain a center of cardiac mass. Also, the method provides for estimating raw motion data representative of the motion of the center of cardiac mass from the one or more sets of CT projection data. In addition, the method includes processing the center of mass through time to extract a motion signal from the raw projection data. Also, the method provides for extracting the periodicity information from the motion signal.

Method and system for extracting information about the cardiac cycle from CT projection data

A CT imaging system includes a rotatable gantry having an opening to receive an object to be scanned. A plurality of x-ray emission sources are attached to the rotatable gantry, each x-ray emission source configured to emit x-rays in a conebeam toward the object. The CT imaging system also includes a plurality of x-ray detector arrays attached to the gantry and positioned to receive x-rays passing through the object. At least one x-ray detector array of the plurality of x-ray detector arrays is configured to receive x-rays from more than one x-ray emission source.

Method and system for CT imaging using multi-spot emission sources

One or more techniques are provided for adapting a reconstruction process to account for the motion of an imaged object or organ, such as the heart. In particular, projection data of the moving object or organ is acquired using a slowly rotating CT gantry. Motion data may be determined from the projection data or from images reconstructed from the projection data. The motion data may be used to reconstruct motion-corrected images from the projection data. The motion-corrected images may be associated to form motion-corrected volume renderings.

Method and apparatus for correcting motion in image reconstruction

A method for volumetric reconstruction of a cyclically moving object using a computed tomography (CT) system includes scanning a cyclically moving object with a CT imaging system including at least one of an area detector and a linear detector to encompass the desired field of view and a rotating gantry to measure projection data during a plurality of cycles of the cyclically moving object. The method also includes dividing a period of the cyclically moving object into a discrete number of phases, identifying an initial set of projection data at a desired phase of a first cycle at a first angle, identifying at least one subsequent set of projection data at the same desired phase of a subsequent cycle at an angle that is different from the first angle, and combining the initial set of projection data with each subsequent set of identified projection data and using a reconstruction algorithm to generate a three-dimensional image. The method further includes repeating the steps of identifying an initial set of projection data at a desired phase of a first cycle at a first angle, identifying at least one subsequent set of projection data at the same desired phase of a subsequent cycle at an angle that is different from the first angle, and combining the initial set of projection data with each subsequent set of identified projection data and using a reconstruction algorithm to generate a collection of three-dimensional images for the desired phases; and temporally filtering the collection of three-dimensional images on a pixel by pixel basis.

Methods and system for detecting components of plaque

A technique is provided for improving consistency between slabs in a reconstructed CT image. Candidate sectors associated with an image slab are determined. If the sectors contain sufficient information to reconstruct the image slab, the sector which minimizes inconsistency with projection data for adjacent image slabs is selected for reconstruction. If the sectors do not contain sufficient information to reconstruct the slab, sectors are merged together until a merge group contains sufficient information. The merge group which minimizes inconsistency with projection data for adjacent image slabs is selected for image reconstruction. The selected sectors or merge groups are then reconstructed with the resulting image slabs comprising a reconstructed image with improved consistency between image slabs.

Method and apparatus for selecting a reconstruction projection set

A technique is provided for reducing motion-related artifacts present in CT images attributable to the dynamic nature of the imaged tissue or the time-varying concentration of a contrast agent. A region of interest that encompasses a structure of diagnostic significance is selected. For projections acquired by the various rows of detectors in a multi-slice CT imaging system, the portions of the projections attributable to the projection of the region of interest are averaged for each view angle. The projections containing these averaged values are then combined with the projections which do not encompass the region of interest. The combined projection set may be reconstructed to form a CT image of the dynamic tissue. In addition, a smoothing step may be performed to interpolate projection values around the region of interest to smooth the visual transition to the unaveraged portions of the image.
