A device associated with a home network may receive an access point name (APN) request from a device associated with a visitor network, wherein the APN request is associated with a user device. The device associated with the home network may cause, based on the APN request, a virtual home network to be instantiated that includes a virtual gateway, wherein the virtual home network is physically closer to the user device than the home network. The device associated with the home network may generate an APN that identifies the virtual home network and the virtual gateway. The device associated with the home network may cause the APN to be sent to the device associated with the visitor network to cause a gateway associated with the visitor network to connect to the virtual gateway.

APN for connecting to a virtual home network

A network device, in a first wireless network operated by a first network operator, receives a first location of a user equipment device (UE) and a second location of a Multi-Access Edge Computing data center (MEC) operated by a second network operator. The network devices performs at least one of: 1) determining a closest gateway or user plane function (UPF) to the MEC data center within the first wireless network; or 2) deploying a Virtual Network Function (VNF) in a particular hosting center that is close to the MEC. The network device sets up a connection between at least one of the determined closest gateway or UPF and the MEC, or the deployed VNF and the MEC, to enable the UE to access the MEC via the first wireless network.

Multi-operator MEC sharing based on user equipment location

A device may receive a request to access a network service from a user equipment (UE) roaming on a visiting public mobile network (VPMN). The device may receive UE radio frequency (RF) band information that identifies a UE supported set of RF spectrum bands, and may receive VPMN RF band information that identifies a VPMN supported set of RF spectrum bands. The device may determine whether to permit or deny access to the network service based on the UE RF band information and the VPMN RF band information, and may provide an instruction to permit or deny access to the network service based on the UE RF band information and the VPMN RF band information.

Selectively providing access to network services based on frequency band information

A device may identify a first set of radio frequency (RF) spectrum bands supported by a visited public mobile network (VPMN) for a first radio access technology (RAT), and may identify a second set of RF spectrum bands supported by a user device for the first RAT. The device may compare the first set of RF spectrum bands and the second set of RF spectrum bands, and may determine whether the user device and the VPMN support a same RF spectrum band for the first RAT. The user device may be registered to use the first RAT when the user device and the VPMN support the same RF spectrum band for the first RAT, or the user device may be registered to use the second RAT when the user device and the VPMN do not support the same RF spectrum band for the first RAT.

Selecting a radio access technology based on radio frequency spectrum bands supported by a user device and by a roaming network

The instant application describes a method for enabling a mobile station to receive high quality mobile voice and multimedia services over the LTE network across the world, regardless of the operating frequency band of the LTE network. The method includes steps of receiving, over the WiFi network, a connection request at a router from the mobile station; upon determining the mobile station is authorized to use the router for connecting to the LTE network, establishing a WiFi connection with the mobile station; receiving, at the router and from the mobile station, registration information for receiving an IMS voice service on the LTE network; and upon successful authentication of the registration information, providing the mobile station with the voice grade quality of service using the router regardless of a difference in operating frequency between the LTE network and the mobile station.

A user device may receive roaming policy information. The roaming policy information may identify a roaming network and one or more services available to the user device via the roaming network. The user device may determine that the user device is to connect to the roaming network. The user device may determine a service, of the one or more services, to be provided to the user device via the roaming network. The determination may be based on the roaming policy information. The user device may provide, to a network device associated with the roaming network, information identifying the service to be provided via the roaming network, based on determining that the user device is to connect to the roaming network.

A method for provisioning, registering and authenticating a mobile phone on a basestation is provided. The method includes receiving an addition request for the addition of a mobile station to a basestation authorization record via an interface. The method continues with creating an entry for the mobile station, where the entry includes mobile station information, and receiving a registration request including request information from the mobile station to register to receive basestation based services via the associated internet multimedia subsystem network. The method also includes authorizing registration on the IMS network based at least in part on the request information.

Method and apparatus for provisioning and authentication/registration for femtocell user on IMS core network

A local positioning system (LPS) uses the radio propagation parameters in a CDMA forward link or TDMA reverse link to establish a mobile station's position. The mobile station receives pilot channel signals from at least three distinct base stations and records the PN chip offset of the pilot channel signals. The LPS time difference of arrival triangulation approach requires no additional signal detection capabilities. Base stations send out pilot channel signals that arrive at a mobile station with a particular phase and at least a predetermined minimum strength. The mobile station reports back the &ldquo;visible&rdquo; pilot channel signals, their phases and signal strength to the LPS which uses a location non-linear system, expressed as a set of cost functions, to estimate the mobile location. The LPS can also solve the 9-1-1 mobile location problem for wireless CDMA systems by determining the position of a person in distress that has a digital cellular phone.

Local positioning system

A method and apparatus that uses the location of a mobile terminal to direct the mobile terminal to a candidate receiver for participation in a handoff of the mobile terminal. The location of the mobile terminal in communication with a first receiver is determined. It is also determined whether the mobile terminal should participate in a handoff. The later can be determined based on the location of the mobile terminal, or it can be determined in any other way. If mobile terminal should participate in the handoff, the location of the mobile terminal is used to direct the mobile terminal to a candidate receiver for participation in the handoff. The characteristics of the candidate receiver and/or transmitter can be obtained from a database that correlates the location of the mobile terminal and the characteristics of the candidate receiver and/or candidate transmitter. The mobile terminal can then be handed off to the candidate receiver. Optionally, the mobile terminal can then perform measurements of the wireless communication system using the candidate receiver, and then be handed off to the first receiver. An optimal receiver for participation in the handoff is identified based on the measurements of the wireless communication system. The mobile terminal is then handed off to the optimal receiver. Using the location of the mobile terminal to direct it to the candidate receiver for participation in the handoff is particularly advantageous for two adjacent or overlapping wireless communication systems that operate at different frequency bands, or comply with different wireless communication standards, or both.

Use of location in handoff in wireless communication systems

High speed data transfer from a base station to a mobile terminal is provided using an additional wide band communication channel that supplements the communications provided by the reverse (mobile to base station) and forward (base station to mobile) links used in cellular or PCS communications systems. In one embodiment, the standard forward and reverse links are used as control channels for data transfers over the additional or adjunct forward wide band channel. In another embodiment, the communications carried out over the narrow band forward link channel are sent over the adjunct wide band forward channel thereby eliminating the need for a narrow band forward link channel.

Wireless data communications using asymmetric channel allocation

A system for providing location based service telephone call to wireless subscribers. The system of the present invention provides processes for receiving location data about a wireless subscriber telephone and using the information to find the telephone number of the nearest service provider. The wireless subscriber telephone set can then be connected to the nearest service provider. It is also possible to a plurality of different location identifiers to determine the nearest service provider. In performing a look-up, the list can be used on a priority basis to determine the nearest service provider.

System for providing location based service to a wireless telephone set in a telephone system

The present invention is a wireless location messaging system and method for determining the location of a mobile-telephone in a home or roaming wireless communication system, and in a multitude of call states using an audit signal and a confirmation signal that provides enhanced location accuracy. In one embodiment, the present invention wireless location messaging system is implemented in a wireless communication system comprising a base station for transmitting an audit signal, receiving a confirmation signal transmitted by a mobile-telephone in response to the audit signal and time stamping when the confirmation signal was received, and a location system for determining a location of the mobile-telephone using the receive times of the confirmation signal. The audit signal and the confirmation signal are transmitted using a communication channel that depends on the current call state of the mobile-telephone. Another embodiment of the present invention includes a location register that indicates the wireless communication system last known to serve the particular mobile-telephone. If a second wireless communication system was last known to the serve the particular mobile-telephone, the second wireless communication system is cause to transmit the audit signal, receive the confirmation signal, and time stamp the confirmation signal using its base stations. Subsequently, these receive times are used to determine the location of the particular mobile-telephone.
