In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body and an expandable member at a distal portion of the elongated body and defining at least part of a distal tip of the catheter. The expandable member includes a flexible membrane and an expandable ring or partial ring located at a distal portion of the expandable member, wherein the expandable ring or partial ring is configured to expand radially outward in response to electrical energy applied to the expandable ring or partial ring.

Expandable-tip aspiration guide catheter

An aspiration catheter can be used to capture and retrieve vascular debris from blood vessels. The aspiration catheter can include a distal segment having ports positioned along its longitudinal length and about its circumference. The distal segment can capture thrombus at least partially on an exterior of the distal segment when aspiration is applied through the ports, and retrieve the thrombus when the elongate member is retracted proximally. The distal segment can be modified from a non-collapsed configuration to a collapsed configuration when aspiration is applied through the ports. The distal segment can have projections arranged along and around its circumference. The projections can be configured to slide distally through a thrombus within a blood vessel and to pull the thrombus when the elongate member is retracted proximally.

In some examples, a catheter includes an elongated body extending between a proximal end and a distal end, and defining an inner lumen, an outer body wall having a wall cross-sectional diameter, and a distal aperture at the distal end. A distal portion of the elongated body including a taper section that tapers from the outer body wall of the distal portion to the distal aperture, with the distal portion defining a plurality of slits open to the distal aperture. The distal aperture has an aperture diameter greater than zero and less than the wall cross-sectional diameter. The distal portion defining the plurality of slits is configured to substantially center the distal end around a guide member when the guide member is introduced in the inner lumen and extends through the distal aperture.

A catheter used for treatment of complex vasculature, such as a bifurcated aneurysm, is provided with an inflatable balloon at a distal portion thereof. The shape, location and material of the inflatable balloon are selected such that when inflated, the balloon conforms to the shape of the complex vasculature, or at least a portion thereof, without appreciably deforming the vessel walls. In this manner, the balloon can be used to control flow in the vasculature, for example occluding a selected branch of the vasculature during introduction of material in order concentrate the material and minimize its disbursement by blood flow.

An intravascular implant delivery system carries an implant by retaining an engagement member engaging the implant in a position proximal of an aperture at a distal end of the delivery system. The engagement member is retained proximal to the aperture by a cord that obstructs the movement of the engagement member through the aperture. The engagement member is free to rotate and move within an area defined by the delivery system, allowing the implant to react to forces imparted to the implant by the movement of the delivery system and implant through a delivery catheter. Once the implant is in a desired implant position, the cord is moved away from an aperture and the engagement member is allowed to move away from the delivery system.
