Included are drilling fluids for drilling in a subterranean formation. A drilling fluid may include: an aqueous base fluid and a betaine shale stabilizer comprising glycine betaine HCl.

Betaines for shale stabilization

Methods of coating solid particulates used in a wellbore fluid are described. The methods include providing a first solution that includes at least one inorganic sol precursor and at least one solvent, adding an aqueous solution to the first solution to form an inorganic sol that develops into an inorganic sol-gel, applying the inorganic sol-gel to the solid particulates, drying the solid particulates to form an inorganic sol-gel coating on the solid particulates, and mixing the coated solid particulates with a wellbore fluid.

Sol-gel modified particulates for wellbore fluids

Included are methods and systems for drilling in a subterranean formation. A method comprises providing a drilling fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid and a betaine shale stabilizer; placing the drilling fluid into the subterranean formation; and drilling a wellbore in the subterranean formation. A drilling system comprises a drilling fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid and a betaine shale stabilizer; a drilling assembly; a drill string coupled to the drilling assembly; a pumping system fluidically coupled to the drill string, wherein the pumping system is capable of pumping the drilling fluid through the drill string.

A conductive metal pattern can be formed using a titania sol-gel obtained from a titania precursor composition having (a) a titanium alkoxide or titanium aryloxide, (b) a R(O)COCHCO(O)R' compound wherein R and R&#x2032; are independently alkyl and m and n are independently 0 or 1, (c) water, (d) either an acid having a pKless than 1 or a source of a halogen, and (e) a water-miscible organic solvent, on a substrate, wherein the molar amounts of (a) through (d) are sufficient to form a pattern of a titania sol-gel upon drying on the substrate. This pattern is contacted with electroless seed metal ions to form a pattern of electroless seed metal ions deposited within the pattern of titania sol-gel on the substrate, which electroless seed metal ions are exposed to electromagnetic radiation to reduce the electroless seed metal. The article is then subjected to electroless metal plating.
