Plural columnar recesses are formed in a depressed form, on one end surface of a solid electrolyte disposed on a side facing an anode. Accordingly, the solid electrolyte is formed with a thick-walled portion and thin-walled portions, wherein the thick-walled portion extends from an abutment surface with respect to the anode to an abutment surface with respect to a cathode. The thin-walled portions extend from the abutment surface with respect to the cathode to the columnar recesses, and further have a thickness smaller than that of the thick-walled portion. Therefore, the anode also is formed on bottom and side wall surfaces of the columnar recesses. In the obtained electrolyte electrode assembly, a calculated value of conductance per unit area is set at 2 to 30 S/cm.

Electrolyte electrode assembly and method for producing the same

A fuel cell includes an electrolyte electrode assembly and separators. A first protection layer is formed on a surface of an anode of the electrolyte electrode assembly facing the separator for preventing the anode from being exposed to an exhaust gas. A second protection layer is formed on a surface of the separator facing the anode for preventing the separator from being exposed to the exhaust gas. The first protection layer and the second protection layer tightly contact each other in part so as to form a space as a fuel gas channel for supplying a fuel gas to the anode. Alternatively, a protection layer is formed on an end surface of the separator facing the anode for preventing the separator from being exposed to the exhaust gas.

Fuel cell and method of producing the fuel cell

A method of inspecting a stack body of at least a porous layer and a dense layer comprises the first step of measuring the length of the stack body before the stack body is fired, the second step of measuring the length of the stack body after the stack body is fired, the third step of calculating a shrinkage rate of the stack body based on a first measured value from the first step and a second measured value from the second step, the fourth step of determining whether the calculated shrinkage rate of the stack body is acceptable or not based on the calculated shrinkage rate, the fifth step of calculating an S/N ratio of the stack body based on the first measured value and the second measured value, and the sixth step of determining whether the current-voltage characteristics of the stack body are acceptable or not based on the calculated S/N ratio.
