Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to templated application deployment and provide a novel and non-obvious method, system and computer program product for the uniform specification of the creation and management of an application template. In one embodiment, a method for creating and managing application templates utilizing assets can be provided. The method can include grouping templated application components as assets described by a profile, building a manifest for the grouped assets, and packaging the grouped assets and the manifest in an archive. In this regard, grouping templated application components as assets described by a profile, can include grouping templated application components as Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) assets described by an RAS profile.

Application template creation and management

A method and computer program product for dynamic program integration is described. The method may comprise allowing, with at least one of a client electronic device and a server computer, selection of content in an original program. The method may further comprise applying a command sequence to the content. The method may also comprise copying the content on to a clipboard. Moreover, the method may activate a new program configured to handle the content. Additionally, the method may transfer the content from the clipboard to the new program and receive the content in the new program.

Dynamic use of data across multiple programs

A method and system for aggregating two or more templated components using an aggregation component is provided. Each templated component has at least one configurable element. The aggregation component comprises at least one configurable element, and an extraction mechanism operable to identify configurable elements of the components selected for aggregation. The aggregation component further comprises a mapping mechanism for mapping configurable elements of the selected components to configurable elements of the aggregation component; a storage mechanism for storing data identifying aggregated components and the corresponding mappings of the configurable elements; and a management mechanism for managing data identifying configuration settings of the aggregated selected components.

Method, and aggregation component for aggregating application components

The present invention provides a virtual Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) repository. A method in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes: providing RAS assets for each different lifecycle phase of a software asset; and linking the RAS assets together using RAS related-assets.

Virtual RAS repository

A method, system, apparatus and article of manufacture for producing a customized application. In a preferred method of the invention, a selection of components can be identified which are to be deployed to form the customized application. Within the selection of components, points of variability can be specified which can be assigned values when deploying the selection of components. The identified selection of components and the specified points of variability can be persisted in a template. Subsequently, the template can be processed to deploy the identified selection of components, to prompt for values to be assigned to the points of variability, and to configure the identified selection of components with the values at the points of variability thereby producing the customized application.

Creating customized applications using templates having points of variability

The present invention provides a standardized way to incorporate any new or legacy application into a templatable solution by using Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) profile features. A method in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention includes: providing a default RAS profile for a templatable RAS asset corresponding to the application; and adding at least one extension to the default RAS profile, the at least one extension including a templatable implementation extension for implementing a templatable interface.
