A portable computerized device for an aircraft control system includes an input system for inputting commands, a device display for displaying information on the computerized device, a processor, a wireless communication module, and a non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer executable instructions, the computer executable instructions configured to cause the processor to perform a method. The method can include detecting whether the portable computerized device is in a cockpit state such that the portable computerized device is in and/or docked to an aircraft cockpit or if the portable computerized device is in a remote state such that the portable computerized device is not in an aircraft cockpit or is not docked to an aircraft cockpit. If the portable computerized device is determined to be in a remote state, the method includes operating the remote device in a remote mode. If the portable computerized device is determined to be in a cockpit state, the method includes operating the device in a local mode.

Portable aircraft controller devices and systems

A communication system includes a vehicle communication assembly connected to a vehicle, including a transmitter and a receiver, and configured to wirelessly communicate with a remote entity, and a processing device and a memory coupled to the processing device. The memory includes computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processing device, cause the processing device to receive a wireless signal including a speech communication from the remote entity at the receiver, analyze the wireless signal by a speech recognition module to identify the speech communication, and recognize a known directive within the speech communication based on stored contextual information. The instructions also cause the processing device to, based on recognizing the known directive, present a textual representation of the known directive to a user of the vehicle, and determine that the processing device correctly recognized the known directive based on detecting an input from the user verifying the known directive.

Verification of wireless communications between a vehicle user and a remote entity

A technique relates to interactive aircraft operation. An interactive electronic checklist is selected from a plurality of interactive electronic checklists, the interactive electronic checklists each comprising checklist tasks. It is perceived that one or more of the checklist tasks in the interactive electronic checklist is executable by an autonomous system. The one or more of the checklist tasks is performed using the autonomous system, an operator being designated to perform any other ones of the checklist tasks.

Interactive electronic checklists for autonomous aircraft

A technique relates to adaptive flight display. The technique includes rendering a first flight instrument display during autonomous flight operation of an aircraft, the first flight instrument display comprising autonomous mode information; determining, by a processor, that a trigger is met to transition from the first flight instrument display for the autonomous flight operation to a second flight instrument display for providing an increased perception of aircraft operating parameters for at least one of increased human awareness and human operation of the aircraft, the trigger being associated with a requirement for human intervention; and in response to the trigger being met, rendering the second flight instrument display for the human operation of the aircraft, the second flight instrument display comprising additional information.

Adaptive flight display for autonomous aircraft operations

A method of teaming a manned aerial vehicle and an unmanned aerial vehicle includes inputting to a controller in a manned vehicle coordinates for an area of interest, plotting a course to the area of interest in a navigation computer operatively connected to the controller, identifying one or more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) near the area of interest, communicating to a ground controller rendezvous coordinates for one of the one or more UAVs, and negotiating a control hand-off of the one of the one or more UAVs from the ground controller to the controller.

Method and system for teaming manned and unmanned aerial vehicles

An example computer-implemented method for natural language mission planning includes: responsive to receiving a request to initiate mission planning for a selected mission type from a plurality of mission types, constructing, by a processing system, a mission narrative that describes a mission intent based on the selected mission type, the mission narrative comprising a plurality of fields; populating, by the processing system, the plurality of fields in the mission narrative from an autonomous mission manager based on the selected mission type with options to be selected by a mission planner; responsive to presenting the populated plurality of fields to the mission planner, filling, by the processing system, the mission narrative with the received selected options; creating, by the processing system, an optimized mission plan based on the mission narrative; and controlling, by the processing system, a vehicle based on the optimized mission plan.

Natural language mission planning and interface

An electronic human machine interface (HMI) module is configured to receive at least one input from an operator of a manually-operated vehicle. The electronic HMI module includes an electronic graphical display unit and an electronic control module. The electronic graphical display unit is configured to display information corresponding to the manually-operated vehicle and information corresponding to an autonomously operated unmanned vehicle (UV) located remotely from the manually-operated vehicle. The electronic control module is in signal communication with the UV and is configured to receive an electronic image signal from the UV. The electronic control module is further configured to display a real-time image captured by the UV on the electronic graphical display unit based on the image signal.
