Tackified pressure-sensitive adhesives and tapes comprising a copolymer based on an acrylic backbone, with a glycidyl monomer, unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer and preferably a vinyl lactam monomer, and a tackifier, said adhesives being dual curable and exhibiting outstanding peel adhesion and high temperature shear performance.

Tackified dual cure pressure-sensitive adhesive

A tackified pressure-sensitive adhesive having good convertibility and improved adhesive performance even at coat weights lower than conventional systems is provided. The pressure-sensitive adhesive comprises (a) an emulsion polymer formed from a monomer mix comprising 35 to 60% by weight alkyl acrylates, 15 to 35% by weight vinyl esters, 15 to 35% by weight diesters of dicarboxylic acids, and up to about 5% by weight unsaturated carboxylic acids, and (b) a tackifier having an acid number of from about 30 to about 60 and a ring and ball softening point of from about 50.degree. to about 70.degree. C. In one embodiment, the tackifier has a hydrocarbon resin component and a rosin-based resin component, with the preferred tackifier comprising an aromatic modified aliphatic resin containing wood rosin. A preferred adhesive comprises 8 to 12 parts by weight tackifier per 100 parts by weight polymer.

Tackified emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive

There is provided hot water and alkali removable pressure-sensitive adhesive composition based on emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers used in combination with a rosin based acidic tackifier and a rosin based surfactant.

Removable pressure-sensitive adhesives for recyclable substrates

There is provided inherently tacky, emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers comprising about 35 to about 65 percent by weight alkyl acrylates, about 15 to about 35 percent vinyl esters, about 20 to about 35 percent by weight diesters of a dicarboxylic acid, and up to about 5 percent by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid. There is preferably included in the monomers a reactive surfactant and a chelating monomer, with or without a chain transfer agent. The preferred polymers have a glass transition temperature less than about -30.degree. C. and a gel content of about 50 to 70 percent by weight.

Inherently tacky pressure-sensitive acrylic polymers are formed by emulsion polymerization in the presence of at least one reactive multifunctional monomer having a cyanurate or phosphate functionality.

Emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesives

A removable pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprises an acrylic-based emulsion polymer having a gel content of from about 70 to about 90%. The polymer comprises about 90 to 99.5 parts alkyl acrylate monomers, up to about 2 parts polar monomers and up to about one part of a multifunctional acrylate monomer. The polymer is sythesized in the presence of a combination of anionic and non-ionic emulsifiers wherein the amount of anionic emulsifer exceeds the amount of non-ionic emulsifier. The composition preferably comprises one or more adhesion stabilizers, preferably a plasticiser in an amount of up to about 3% by weight and a protective colloid in an amount of up to about 1% by weight.

Removable pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions comprising acrylic

There is provided inherently tacky, emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers comprising about 35 to about 65 percent by weight alkyl acrylates, about 15 to about 35 percent vinyl esters, about 20 to about 35 percent by weight diesters di-carboxylic acid, about 0.1 to 1 percent by weight of a reactive multifunctional monomer and up to about 10 percent by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acids. The polymers are formed in the presence of a reactive surfactant, with or without a chain transfer agent. The preferred polymers have a glass transition temperature less than about -20.degree. C. and a gel content of at least 60 percent by weight.

Inherently tacky, emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers comprising about 35 to about 65 percent by weight alkyl acrylates, about 15 to about 35 percent vinyl esters, about 20 to about 35 percent by weight diesters of a dicarboxylic acid, and up to about 5 percent by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid formed in the presence of a reactive surfactant and having a gel content of about 50 to 70 percent by weight as formed are used in sterilizable bandage and medical tape constructions.

There are synthesized certain polycylic-vinyl reactive tackifiers for acrylic based pressure-sensitive adhesive polymers. The compounds have reactive pendant vinyl groups which copolymerize and graft to the adhesive polymer by means of UV or EB radiation. There are also provided novel pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions containing such reactive tackifiers.
