A semiconductor nanocrystal composite comprising a semiconductor nanocrystal composition dispersed in an inorganic matrix material and a method of making same are provided. The method includes providing a semiconductor nanocrystal composition having a semiconductor nanocrystal core, providing a surfactant formed on the outer surface of the composition, and replacing the surfactant with an inorganic matrix material. The semiconductor nanocrystal composite emits light having wavelengths between about 1 and about 10 microns.

Method of making semiconductor nanocrystal composites

A semiconductor nanocrystal composition comprising a Group V to VI semiconductor material and a method of making same. The method includes synthesizing a semiconductor nanocrystal core, where the synthesizing includes dissolving a Group V to VI anion gas in a first solvent to produce a Group V to VI anion precursor, preparing a cation precursor, and reacting the Group V to VI anion precursor with the cation precursor in the presence of a second solvent. The reacting may occur in a high pressure vessel.

Method of preparing semiconductor nanocrystal compositions

A high-refractive index material that includes semiconductor nanocrystal compositions. The high-refractive index material has at least one semiconductor nanocrystal composition incorporated in a matrix material and has a refractive index greater than 1.5. The semiconductor nanocrystal composition has a semiconductor nanocrystal core of a II-VI, III-V, or IV-VI semiconductor material. A method of making a high-refractive index material includes incorporating, at least one semiconductor nanocrystal composition in a matrix material. An application of a high-refractive index material includes incorporating at least one semiconductor nanocrystal composition in a matrix material to form the high-refractive index material and depositing the high-refractive index material on the surface of a lighting device.

A personal care composition that includes a personal care ingredient and semiconductor nanocrystals. A method of protecting at least a portion of a body against ultraviolet radiation by applying a personal care composition is also provided.
