A compound of general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl or optionally-substituted aralkyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or alkyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy or optionally substituted amino, and n is 1 or 2; each of the groups Y being the same or different when n is 2 and Y being other than hydrogen or halogen when R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are both hydrogen; or a salt or metal complex of said compound. Fungicidal compositions containing these compounds and methods of using the same against plant fungal diseases are also disclosed.

Heterocyclic compounds and their use as pesticides

An amide derivative of the formula (I): ##STR1## or a tautomeric form thereof, wherein R is a phenyl group substituted in the 4-position by a group of R.sup.1 XCH.sub.2--, where R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylcarbonyl, or H, and X is oxygen or sulphur; E is CN, or CSNH.sub.2, or CONH.sub.2 ; and Y is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy, 1-pyrazolyl or 2-furyl. Compositions and processes for using these derivatives to combat plant fungi are also disclosed.

Certain triazole compounds and their use as fungicides

Antifungal compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, is hydrogen or optionally-substituted hydrocarbyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen (e.g. fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine), nitro, lower alkyl (e.g. methyl or ethyl), lower alkoxy (e.g. methoxy or ethoxy) or optionally substituted amino, and n is an integer of 1 to 5; each of the groups Y being the same or different when n is greater than 1 and Y being other than hydrogen or halogen when R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are both hydrogen; and salts and metal complexes thereof.

Triazolyl ethanol derivatives

The compounds of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.4 is hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl having up to 4 carbon atoms, phenylallyl, phenyl, benzyl optionally ring-substituted with for example halogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano or methylene-dioxy, of alpha-(C.sub.1-4 alkyl) benzyl optionally ring-substituted with for example halogen, and R.sub.5 is C.sub.1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl having up to 6 carbon atoms; and Z is C.dbd.O or a derivative thereof; or salts of such compounds. The compounds have fungicidal and plant growth regulating properties.

.alpha.-Benzyl-.alpha.-triazolyl pinacolone compounds

A compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, unsubstituted benzyl or benzyl substituted with halogen methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano, methoxy, ethoxy, phenyl or methylenedioxy; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, unsubstituted amino or methyl- or ethyl-substituted amino, and n is 1 or 2; each of the groups Y being the same or different when n is 2 and Y being other than hydrogen or halogen when R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are both hydrogen; or a fungicidal acid salt or metal complex of said compound. Fungicidal compounds of the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be the same or different, is hydrogen, halogen, nitro or alkyl (e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl); R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkoxycarbonyl (e.g. methoxy or ethoxy-carbonyl) or substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl or hydrocarboxyloxy, R.sub.4 is phenyl or halophenyl, R.sub.5 is hydrogen, alkanoyl (e.g. acetyl or propionyl) or substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl, n is 0 or 1, R.sub.5 being substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl when n is 0 and R.sub.3 being other than substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl when n is 1; or salts of such compounds.

A method and pesticidal composition for the preventative, protectant, prophylactic and eradicant treatment of plant fungi and bacteria comprises applying an effective amount to plants or seeds of a pesticidal composition containing in an inert carrier a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; R.sup.1 is polyhaloalkyl or polyhalovinyl; R.sup.2 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, bromo, chloro, fluoro, lower haloalkyl, cyano, nitro, lower alkylthio, lower alkylcarbonyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or cycloalkyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or independently selected from the values of R.sup.2 ; R.sup.4 is hydrogen or independently selected from the values of R.sup.2 ; X is hydrogen, carbamoyl or cyano; and y is zero, one or two.
