A method of manufacturing a roadway luminaire is provided which includes the steps of molding a two part upper housing from a composite material and applying a reflective substance directly to an inner surface of a domed portion of the housing to create a reflector. The luminaire further includes a lower housing hingedly attached to the upper housing which supports a lens therein and is pivotable into an open position and latched to the upper housing in a closed position. Means are provided for mounting the luminaire to a pole.

A roadway luminaire is provided which includes a mast mount docking sation securable to an end of a pole mast. The mast mount docking station includes a power plug electrically coupled to the power conductors. The luminaire includes a corresponding power plug which is electrically and mechanically coupled to the mast mount docking station via a twist-lock feature including mating keys and keyways in the docking station and luminaire, respectively. The luminaire includes several plug-in components such as a plug-in photoelectric cell, a plug-in starter and a capacitor press-fit into a molded cavity in the luminaire. The power plug of the luminaire is adaptable to be used with all international voltages. The twist-lock feature provides for a fool-proof mechanical and electrical connection to ensure that the correctly rated luminaire is connected to the supply voltage.

A lighting fixture for use in hazardous locations and adverse environments, includes a mounting plate and a first ballast housing. A second non-interchangeable ballast housing may be alternately employed by use of an adapter ring removably securable intermediate the mounting plate and the second ballast housing. The adapter ring comprises a top portion specially adapted to engage the mounting plate, with first fastening means associated therewith, and a bottom portion specially adapted to engage the second ballast housing, with second fastening means being associated therewith. The adapter ring allows the replacement of the first ballast housing with the second, wherein the first and second ballast housings are not identical and are produced by different manufacturers. The adaptor ring effectively seals the interfaces with the mounting plate and second ballast housing, thereby maintaining the integrity of the lighting fixture for its intended purpose.

A mating terminal and socket assembly comprising a quartz lamp with at least one terminal means connected to and extending outwardly from the quartz lamp. The terminal means is inserted into a socket means adapted to receive and grip the first terminal means. The socket means is preferably movable and connected to an electrically conductive means such as a wire. This mating terminal and socket assembly can be contained within the housing of a luminaire fixture. This invention also relates to a quartz lamp comprising a bulb having first and second end portions, and first and second end terminal means extending outwardly from the end portions of the bulb.
