Articles and methods are provided for miniature acoustic transducers having highly compliant suspension systems despite their small size. In various examples the suspension system is molded of a liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and is molded in an interior cavity geometry that includes and apex radially offset and/or axially offset from a desired cured position of an apex of the suspension.

Micro transducer molding

Articles and methods are provided for miniature acoustic transducers having highly compliant suspension systems despite their small size. In various examples the suspension system is molded of a liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and is molded in an interior cavity geometry that includes at least one of a radial offset or an axial offset from a desired geometry of the suspension.

A headphone cushion includes a body formed of a partially reticulated polymeric foam and including a front surface configured to engage or surround an ear or head of a user, side surfaces, and a rear surface. The headphone cushion further includes a layer of high-density polymer material extending over at least a portion of the body.

Composite earcushion

An electro-acoustic driver includes a diaphragm formed of a compliant material, a bobbin configured to hold a winding of an electrical conductor and a housing having a housing axis that is substantially coaxial with the bobbin. The diaphragm is fixed to one end of the housing and has a substantially planar shape when the diaphragm is at rest. A stiffening element is fixed to an inner region of a surface of the diaphragm. A motion of the bobbin along a bobbin axis generates a movement of the inner region of the diaphragm to thereby generate an acoustic signal that propagates from the diaphragm.

A method for forming a suspension element for an acoustic driver. The method includes placing an unimpregnated fabric formed from a monofilament polymer fiber in a mold, the monofilament fiber characterized by a softening point and a melting point; heating the mold and the unimpregnated fabric to a temperature greater than the softening point and less than the melting point; and cooling the mold.

Monofilament fabric acoustic suspension elements

An acoustic device includes a diaphragm, a frame, and a suspension element that couples the diaphragm to the frame such that the diaphragm is movable in a reciprocating manner relative to the frame. The suspension element includes a first surround element and a second surround element that are separated at respective outer edges by a first distance and separated at respective inner edges by a second distance. The first distance and the second distance are different.

Acoustic device suspension

A transducer suspension element is presented. The transducer suspension element includes a suspension member having a body, the body having a main portion, a first portion extending from the main portion and continuing to an outer edge, and a second portion extending from the main portion and continuing to an inner edge. At least one conductor is disposed within or on the suspension member body, the at least one conductor extending at least within a section of the first portion and within a section of the second portion of the suspension member, and wherein a length of the at least one conductor of the suspension member is greater than a minimal distance from the inner edge to the outer edge across the suspension member.
